Professional Learning Units (PLU) / Staff Development Units (SDU)

Overview | Prior Approval Form | Course List | Frequently Asked Questions

In the State of Georgia, teachers are required to complete 10 PLUs / SDUs every 5 years in order to retain their teaching certificates. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission has decided to change the name of these required units from Staff Development Units (SDU) to Professional Learning Units (PLU).

If you are currently teaching, you must complete the Prior Approval form found here before you begin your course. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain a record of prior approval for a course. Please print out the form, have your supervisor sign it, and keep it for your records.

Students taking an online PLU / SDU course must complete the notification form prior to beginning the course. For more information about taking an online SDU course, please click here.

For classroom courses, you should receive your PLU / SDU completion form from your instructor.

Note: If you are not presently employed as a teacher, you must keep your PLU / SDU course completion form. When you are ready to renew your teaching certificate, attach your PLU / SDU course completion forms to your renewal application (found here).

To request a PLU / SDU transcript or replacement completion forms, please contact the online program coordinator at 770-499-3355 or online@kennesaw.edu.

Courses may not be offered every quarter. Please check the course listings for availability.
