Membership and Benefits
American Association of University Professors (AAUP) was founded by philosophers John Dewey and Arthur Lovejoy in 1915 to address issues that seem very familiar today. More than any other organization AAUP is responsible for the articulating the value of academic freedom and for defending an appropriate role for faculty in university governance. That work is far from finished.
KSU at a Crossroads
Kennesaw State University is at a crossroads. We have a new university president and a new governance structure, including, for the first time, a Faculty Senate, which AAUP played a key role in creating. But we are far from finished:
Priorites for 2007-2008:
- Establishment of college and department faculty councils.
- Approval of written bylaws in colleges and departments.
- Salary Compression
- Meaningful evaluations upper administrators
- Service and T&P
- Parking
Now is the time for the faculty to organize and to speak up for changes that will take Kennesaw State to the next level. Do your part.
AAUP = Political and Legal Support
The affiliation of the Kennesaw State chapter with the statewide and national AAUP means we will have vital political and legal support for our work. The Georgia conference of the AAUP has a strong and effective record of legislative lobbying on issues of interest to faculty, including changes in the retirement system and sick leave policies.
Please Do Your Part
To be an effective chapter, to have standing with the administration and the Board of Regents, we need members. Active, engaged members. We need YOU.
Membership in the AAUP is not cheap. Annual dues are $91 for new members. But the issues at stake are priceless. Please do your part.
