* Change in Existing Policy*
A FLAC component (Foreign Language Across the Curriculum) is established by KSU.
FLAC is offered by the individual instructor(s) and coordinated by the Department of Foreign
Languages in cooperation with the Language Resources Center and the KSU International Center.
Students who successfully complete their FLAC assignments will be rewarded with a "FLAC"
distinction on their transcripts.
* New Undergraduate Programs*
> The Board of Regents approved the redesignation of the existing Bachelor of Arts with a major in Art as the Bachelor of
Fine Arts with a major in Art at its January 2001 meeting.
> A Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology Education was approved and will be offered in the fall of 2001.
This approval is part of the major and degree designation changes in teacher preparation programs in conformance to the Regents'
Principles.
> A Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemistry Education was approved and will be offered in the fall of 2001.
This approval is part of the major and degree designation changes in teacher preparation programs in conformance to the Regents'
Principles.
* New Undergraduate Program Pending Final Approval from Board of Regents'*
> A Bachelor of Science in Geographic Information Science (GISc) was approved by the UPCC and is pending final approval from the
Board of Regents.
* Undergraduate Program Deletions*
> The Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Science Education was deactivated to be terminated in Fall 2001.
This deletion is part of the major and degree designation changes in teacher preparation programs in conformance to the Regents'
Principles.
> The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts is deleted and is being replaced by the Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Art.
* Change in Degree and Program Requirements*
School of the Arts
> For Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Performance, and Bachelor of Music in Music Education,
the Chamber Singers ensemble is upgraded to a "large ensemble" type experience. As a "large ensemble"
the Chamber Singers ensemble can be used to fulfill required large ensemble experience in all music degree
programs. Prefix of Chamber Singers has been changed from "small ensemble" to a separate prefix/number.
Bagwell College of Education and PTEU
> Middle Grades Education program makes several substantial changes. 1) Under General Education, specific math and
science requirements are more clearly spelled out. 2) Lower division science requirements for science concentration
is changed to take BIOL 2108 instead of SCI 2201 and to English requirements for all majors (allowing the opportunity
to "test out" of ENGL 2270.) 3) Changes in the teaching field requirements: a) remove the "required" and "recommended"
verbiage in the catalog. Three more hours are not needed and therefore not recommended. b) Requirement for a new math
course, MATH 3495 Advanced Perspectives in School Mathematics. Make room for this requirement by not requiring MATH 3322.
c) Reflect specific directives for courses to take in general education and lower division for science and math majors.
d) Add the option of ENGL 2150 to ENGL requirements. 4) Changes to Professional Education Sequence: i) EDUC 3302 Curriculum
and Assessment integrated into TOSS Block and dropped as a required separate course. ii) EDSM Reading to Learn in the
Content Areas added as requirement in place of EDUC 3302 Curriculum and Assessment. iii) Free electives hours made
applicable to social studies and language arts majors only. (Science and math majors have hours already because of
required 4 credit hours courses.) iv) Program total is 123-126 hours for math and science combination only because of
required 4 credit hour courses.
> Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education program implements several changes in response to the Georgia Board of
Regents mandate that additional course work of 12 to 15 hours in mathematics and reading be integrated into the existing
ECE program. New ECE courses are listed below.
> For Bachelor Science in Mathematics Education, MATH 3495 is added to requirements in the teaching field making total hours
24 instead of 21. The hours for free electives are changed from 12 credit hours to 9 credit hours. The total number of
hours for the major will remain 123.
College of Health and Human Services
> Major in Public and Social Services is renamed to Human Services under the existing Bachelor of Science degree. With the
approval of renaming of the PSS major to Human Services, several changes are made including prerequisite, course number,
and course description changes to existing HS and PSS courses, new HS courses, and deletion of PSS courses. Refer below
to new courses and course changes for specific changes.
> Sport Management major decreases free electives from 12 credit hours to 9 and increases HPS 4950 Internship from 9 to 12 credit hours.
It creates a 12-hour Internship that is more meaningful to students and is equal to the other two programs under the HPS department.
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
> Communication Major makes change in Media Studies Track by moving COM 4470, Media Law, from suggested upper level electives
to track requirements for Media Studies Track. This changes the number of credit hours in Media Studies Track from 6 to 9
and the number of credit hours in Media Studies Track electives from 12 to 9. With these credit hour changes, overall
Media Studies Track and Track electives will collectively remain at 18 credits.
College of Mathematics and Science
> Information Systems major makes several changes including removing CSIS 3100 and adding CSIS 4830 to the upper division
major requirements. Under major electives CSIS 3401 and CSIS 4555 are added as options.
> CS major makes several changes including removal of CSIS 3100, 3200, and 3210 from the CS major requirements.
New courses created include CSIS 3401, 3402, and 4560 and several prerequisite changes. Refer below under
new courses and course changes for specifics.

< For Graduate Admission Policy under Application Documents for Degree Programs in both MBA and MAcc, eliminated the
two letters of recommendation that address applicant¹s ability and potential for graduate study.
< For Graduate Admission Policy under General Requirements for Admission to both MAcc and MBA Programs, eliminated
"two letters of recommendation preferably from current supervisors or managers" and replaced with following sentence:
"Letters of recommendation, preferably from a current supervisor or manager, may be requested in situations where
admission to the (MBA or MAcc) is in question and extenuating circumstances should be considered in evaluating the
suitability of the applicant to successfully complete (postgraduate business or graduate accounting) study."

< Changes in M.Ed. admission requirements for Early Childhood Education program. Changes are consistent with revised
M.Ed. program. The program will require candidates to work with their school¹s School Improvement Plan and will require
a minimum amount of release time from their classrooms. The revised admission criteria eliminates the GRE requirement
but places more emphasis on the candidates¹ personal statement and endorsement from current principal. The provisional
admissions status has also been eliminated.
*Graduate Programs/Concentrations Changes*

MAPW program.
< MBA program adds an e-Business Management Concentration and includes six new EBIZ courses listed below under new graduate
courses.
< Business Administration concentration under MBA program is changed to read: "II. Business Administration Concentration
