the Graduate Policies and Curriculum Committee and the Senate.
APPROVED UNDERGRADUATE POLICIES AND CURRICULUM COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS:
These approvals will be reflected in the 2002-2003 Undergraduate Catalog and will also be
published on KSU's undergraduate on-line web (2001-2002 fall 2001 updates version);

* New Undergraduate Programs*
> The Bachelor of Science in Geographic Information Science (GISC) was approved by the Board of Regent's
in May 2001 and will be offered fall semester 2001.
* Change in Degree and Program Requirements*
College of Health and Human Services
> Major in Public and Social Services is renamed to Human Services under the existing Bachelor of Science degree. With the
approval of renaming of the PSS major to Human Services, several changes are made including prerequisite, course number,
and course description changes to existing HS and PSS courses, new HS courses, and deletion of PSS courses. Refer below
to new courses and course changes for specific changes.
> Sport Management major decreases free electives from 12 credit hours to 9 and increases HPS 4950 Internship from 9 to 12 credit hours.
It creates a 12-hour Internship that is more meaningful to students and is equal to the other two programs under the HPS department.
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
> Exercise and Health Science makes changes evolved from the ongoing evaluations of the curriculum based on trends in the
Exercise and Health Science field and feedback from the graduates. Three changes were made: 1) HPS 1530 and HPS 1570 are
dropped as lower division major requirements and allow students the option to select two courses from a menu of activities.
2) Add HPS 4500 - Physiological Basis of Training and Performance to the Exercise Specialist and Pre-Professional
concentrations. 3) Drop 4750 Internship as a requirement for the Pre-Professional concentration.
*Revisions in Existing Minors*
The minor in Gerontology is revised due to three of the courses being reassigned as core courses for the new Graduate
Certificate in Gerontology program. Even though these three courses have been eliminated in the undergraduate program,
other sufficient courses already exist to support this undergraduate minor.

applicants and the MAPW faculty a reasonable alternative to the 1350 minimum total GRE score.
*Graduate Programs/Concentrations Changes*
**< Master of Science in Information Systems modifies program to make the following changes: 1) prerequisite structure for
the entire program will change such that, once a student has received full admission, the only courses with prerequisites

FINAL ACTIONS ON RECOMMENDATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY SENATE ACTIONS SPRING SEMESTER 2001.
The following Senate recommendations have been approved for implementation. Where applicable, these approvals will be
included in the latest editions of the catalogs and/or handbooks of KSU.
* Amended admission policies for KSU limited freshmen as follows:
- adjust the minimum SAT verbal score required for placement testing to 480. The new institutional range would become 430-480
for traditional freshman instead of 430-510.
- Adjust the minimum SAT math score required for placement testing to 450. The new institutional range would become 400-450 for
traditional freshman instead of 400-470.
- Discontinue placement testing in Reading for all traditional freshman since they have already met system requirements for
the university admission. Reading test scores do not reflect a reliable correlation with reading success within subject areas
(such as philosophy and history). There is reading incorporated in the English 0099 course.
These testing procedures only apply to students just out of high school, as non-traditional students (5 years out of high
school) and non-native speaking students are tested with a different battery.
* Changes in the tenure and promotion policies from the University Oversight Committee. Sections to be changed in KSU Faculty
Handbook include pages 5.10 - Third Year Review, 5.21- Department Tenure and Promotion Committee Review, 5.22- College/School
Tenure and Promotion Committee Review, 5.23 - Tenure and Promotion, 5.24-University T&P Review Committee, 5.29-Post-Tenure,
and 5.44-Structure & Content of Departmental Guidelines. For detailed descriptions of these changes, see Senate minutes dated
April 9, 2001 and April 30, 2001 (unofficial minutes).
* Policy to Award Academic Credit for International Baccalaureate (IB) Courses passed and will read "Kennesaw State University
awards academic credit for certain International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, if students have achieved a required score on the
national IB examination. Details on required scores and course equivalencies, will be housed in the Office of the Registrar."
