School of the Arts
>B.A. in Music program adds following to their descriptor paragraph:
“Music majors in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music may elect to
fulfill the related studies component of the degree program as a
specific ‘concentration’ in Musical Theatre. To establish this
‘concentration’, students will take the following 12 hours of course
work from the Department of Theatre: THTR 3703, THTR 3203, THTR 3713,
and DANC 3000.
> Major in Theatre makes the following changes: 1) adjusts two course titles-
THTR 3203. Acting I: Principles of Acting and THTR 3223. Acting II:
Intermediate; 2) adjusts once prefix/course title-DANCE 3000. Musical
Theatre Dance: Styles I; 3) insertion of one new course into existing
Performance Track: THTR 3194. Storytelling III: Personal Narrative;
4) clarification of suggested related studies courses in both the Design/
Technology Track and Musical Theatre Track; 5) new location of suggested related
studies courses for Musical Theatre Track students (directly below the Musical
Theatre Track rather than at the end of the degree; 6) correction to update
title of Senior Seminar in Theatre and Performance Studies.
Bagwell College of Education
> Admission in Teacher Education Programs policy makes changes to include a
new course EDUC 2202 required of Secondary and Middle Grades Education
majors and removal of a requirement to complete a minimum of nine semester
hours at KSU prior to admission to teacher education programs. These
changes in policy will strengthen seamless transition and articulation of
transfer and second-degree students at KSU.
College of Health and Human Services
> Sports Management, B.S. degree replaces BLAW 2200 with a new course HPS 2220
Legal Aspects of Sport.
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
> B.S. in Communication updates to the Related Studies requirement with the following:
“Select 12 hours of upper division course work (3000-4000 level) outside of
communication. These hours do not have to be taken in a single discipline but
should relate to a particular interest or career goal. Students should determine
prerequisites for upper-division elective courses and take them as electives in
lower division major requirements or free electives. Completion of a Formal Minor or
Certificate Program would also satisfy the Related Studies requirement.”
> B.S. in Political Science makes several changes to program including:
1) changing POLS 3323 to POLS 2270; 2) clarification of the wording of the
foreign language or math/computer science requirements to minimize confusion;
3) removal of GEOG 3330 and GEOG 3320 from Non-Political Science courses, and
move PHIL 3301, PHIL 3305 and POLS 4499 to Upper-Division Major Requirements;
4) deletion of two courses-POLS 4421 and POLS 4422 and create a new course POLS
4427; 5) deletion of two courses POLS 4425 and POLS 4426 and creation of a new
course POLS 4427; 6) establishment of a common core at upper-level: “Upper-
Division Major Requirements; 7) establishment of four career-oriented Major
Concentration.
College of Science and Mathematics
> Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry drops B.S. in Chemistry Education degree
as a separate degree and will offer a Chemistry Education Track under the
General Chemistry Degree. The Chemistry Education degree program that KSU
currently offers only graduates one or two students a year. Since this degree
is a separate degree, an average of ten graduates a year is required for a
viable degree program. Therefore, anticipation of required program closure was
one driving force for developing this new track. However, the Chemistry and
Biochemistry Department believes that more students can be recruited for the
Chemistry Education Track of the General Chemistry Degree because the students
will have a degree in Chemistry that prepares them for other professional
positions.
•Changes in Certificate Programs•
Alternative Dispute Resolution removes COM 3345 and replaces it with ANTH 4410 to
ensure that ADR Certificate students will have a strong foundation in
understanding cross-cultural behavior and communication, essential areas in
effective dispute resolution.
