College of Science and Mathematics
> The B.S. degree in Chemistry (Professional Chemistry Track) now requires CHEM 1110 (Chemistry Career Seminar) for all Professional Track majors. This course gives students an advantage by enabling them to choose a direction early in their chemistry career. One of the two semesters of CHEM 3990 under the Upper Division Requirements was dropped so that the total hours in that area are now 35 instead of 36 to make room for the CHEM 1110 in Area F. Area F now has a total of 19 hours as does the Middle Grades Education for a Science emphasis.
*New Certificate Program*
The University System launched a new collaborative undergraduate certificate program in European Union Studies. KSU is supporting this certificate program by offering a European Union Studies certificate program in fall 2002.
Request for Discontinuing a Degree Program
A form created for Discontinuing a Degree Program was accepted and goes into effect immediately. *New Undergraduate Courses*
HIST 3307. Introduction to the European Union. 3-0-3. Prerequisite: HIST 1110.
*Undergraduate Course Changes*
CHEM 3050. Course title change to Biophysical Chemistry. APPROVED UNDERGRADUATE POLICIES AND CURRICULUM COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS: Changes will be reflected in the 2003-2004 undergraduate catalog and be posted to the on-line undercatalog 2002-2003 (including fall 2002 updates). *Change in Degree and Program Requirements* School of the Arts > BFA degree in Visual Arts makes several changes to their program including the deletion of eight courses. These eight courses will be phased out at the end of summer term 2002. These are being replaced in fall 2002 by eight new courses that are part of upgrading to meet the National School of Art and Design standards for accreditation and to prepare students for entrance into their professional field with the necessary design and technical skills. These skills are increasingly based on digital design programs. The content of the new courses reflect this. There are also new course numbers to create a logical numerical sequence for the Graphic Communication concentration. New course titles, course descriptions, and redistribution in the number of lecture hours and lab reflect the use of new technology and changed concepts about how each course should be taught to relate to other courses in the sequencing. The new courses and course changes are detailed below. > B.A. degree in Theater makes the following changes: 1) Adds a new Directing Styles course. This broadens the curricular offerings in the Directing track. 2) Changes the existing course title and description for Principles of Directing, This clarifies its purpose and content relative to the new course. 3) Changes the existing course number, description and prerequisite for Staging and Adapting Literary Texts. This clarifies its purpose and content relative to the two other directing courses. College of Science and Mathematics > The B.S. degree in Chemistry (General Chemistry Track) adds a track in Forensic Chemistry to the existing General Chemistry track. This was accomplished by increasing the number of hours in major field requirements along with an elimination of a track. *New Undergraduate Courses* ART 3011. Typography I. 1-5-3.
