Dr. Valerie Whittlesey
Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor
of Psychology.
Valerie Whittlesey is Associate Vice President for Academic
Affairs and Professor of Psychology at Kennesaw State University.
Previously, she served four years as Assistant Vice President
for Academic Affairs and Center for Excellence in Teaching
and Learning (CETL) Fellow. From 1998 to 2002, she served
as Chair of the Psychology Department at KSU. She received
her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Cornell University
in 1985. She served as a faculty member at Lincoln University
prior to joining the faculty at Kennesaw State. Also, she
completed a post-doctoral program in the Psychology Department
at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Whittlesey has taught courses in General Psychology, Developmental
Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Statistics, Black Psychology,
Career Issues in Psychology, and the Senior Seminar in Psychology.
She has published journal articles, books, and chapters of
books on the racial attitudes of children, racial and social
class similarities and differences in children's conceptual
development, undergraduate program assessment, and diversity
in the psychology curriculum.
Dr. Whittlesey is currently Secretary of the Society for the
Teaching of Psychology of the American Psychological Association.
She is a member of the American Psychological Association,
the American Psychological Society, and the Southeastern Psychological
Association.
