Election Procedures

Election of the members of the Senate and standing committees will be supervised by the Chair-Elect of the Senate. The Chair-Elect will notify each constituent group of the vacancies requiring election/appointment for the following fall by December 1. The elections will be held and results reported to the Chair-Elect of the Senate by March 31 for the following year. New members will be invited to attend the last meeting of the Spring semester and will take office at the beginning of Fall semester. An individual in any constituency may hold a maximum of two university-wide elected positions. Elections shall be conducted according to the following procedures:

All persons elected to the Senate and standing committees will be elected to serve for two year terms unless otherwise specified.

In the event a Senate representative cannot complete his or her term of office or has more than two unexcused, consecutive absences from regular Senate meetings during a semester, the member will have voluntarily resigned her/his membership. A special election will be held by the appropriate constituency to fill the vacated seat, temporarily or permanently, as the case may be.

After the elections are completed and before the end of Spring semester, the Chair-Elect of each committee will hold an organizational meeting at which time elections for officers will be held. The names of the elected officers shall be reported to the Chair-Elect of the Senate by the end of Spring semester.
