Minors in a subject area require a minimum of 20 credit hours (10 hours in residence) at the upper division (300-400) level. Prerequisites for the required courses leading to minors are listed here.

African & African American Studies
Prerequisites for this minor are HIST 205 & 206 and ENGL 205 and 206.* To complete a minor in African/African American Studies, the following two courses are required: HIST 392 and ENGL 364. Two additional courses should be selected from ART 357, FREN 424, MUSI 319, POLS 436, PSY 440, HIST 334, 335, 391 or from appropriate special topics (490) courses or directed studies, which must be approved by the chair of the Department of History and Philosophy. Students may not take more than one minor course in their major field and not more than two minor courses in any one discipline. Only one directed study can be used in the minor.

American Literature
Prerequisites for this minor are ENGL 205 and 206.* Select 20 hours from among ENGL 360, 364, 370, 372, 375, 387 or any appropriate ENGL 490. A student may select either ENGL 401 or 402 in place of five of these hours.

Anthropology
The prerequisite for this minor is ANTH 105(3 hrs.) or ANTH 201 (5 hrs.). Select 20 hours from among ANTH 310, 321, 400, 410**, 421 or 490.* **Non-PSS majors must take ANTH 410 and fifteen additional hours of upper level anthropology courses. PSS majors must take twenty hours of upper level anthropology courses, in addition to ANTH 410.

Art History
The prerequisite for this minor is ENGL 102.* Select 20 hours at the 300-400 level in art history and/or fine arts; must include ARH 375 and ARH 385 (Prerequisite recommended: ART 107).

Biology
Prerequisites: BIOL 103, 104 or BIOL 200, 201.* BIOL 300 and any other three courses in biology at the 300-400 level (BIOL 396 not included) for which the student has met all prerequisites. This minor can be developed on the basis of the student’s specific interests and needs.

Chemistry
Prerequisites: CHEM 336, 337, 338, 339.* Select 20 hours from any 300-400 level chemistry courses for which the prerequisites have been met.

Computer Science
CS 220, CS 222, MATH 220, and MATH 260 are prerequisites for the required courses leading to a minor in computer science.* The minor shall consist of CS 351, CS 320, and 10 hours chosen from CS 352, CS 360, or any CS course numbered 400 or higher.

Criminal Justice
The prerequisite for this interdisciplinary minor is CJ 205.* To complete a 20-hour minor in Criminal Justice, you must take either ANTH 310 or SOCI 314 and three of the following: ANTH 310; SOCI 314, SOCI 432; POLS 410, 411, 320; CJ 310, 315, 332 or 430.

Defense Studies
Prerequisites for this minor are HIST 151 & 152 and POLS 201.* To complete a 20-hour minor in defense studies, the following two courses are required: HIST 340 and POLS 350; and two of the following courses may be selected: HIST 456, 451, 321, 475; POLS 435, 333. No more than five hours of the minor can be taken from the student’s major field.

Economics
Available to both business and non-business majors. Select 20 hours at the 300-400 level in economics.*

English Literature
Prerequisites for this minor are ENGL 205 and 206.* Select 20 hours from among ENGL 410, 411, 412, 430, 431, 435, 436, 440, 450, 453, 460, 463, 465 or any appropriate ENGL 490. A student may select either ENGL 401 or 402 in place of five of these hours.

Geography
The prerequisite for this minor is GEOG 103 (3 hrs.) or GEOG 201 (5 hrs.).* To complete a 20 hour minor in geography, the following courses are required: GEOG 300, 310, 312 and one additional course either GEOG 400 (Directed Study) or 490 (Special Topics).

German
Prerequisite for this minor is GERM 202.* To complete a 20 hour minor in German, the following courses are required: GERM 302, 303, 310 or 311 and any 400-level course in German.

Gerontology
Prerequisites for this minor are SOCI 201 or SOCI 205; PSY 105 or PSY 201; 135 hours and completion of one 300 level PSY course.* PSY majors must have completed PSY 301. Courses required for a 20 hour minor in Gerontology include SOCI 310, SOCI 424, NURS 424 and PSY 424. A limit of one 400 or 490 course may be substituted with the approval of the Gerontology program coordinator. Students may not take more than one minor course in their major field and not more than two minor courses in any one discipline.

Health, Physical Education & Sport Science (Coaching Education)
The Department of HPS offers Coaching Education as a minor program of study, regardless of major. The program leads toward a national certification in Coaching Education. Prerequisites for this minor include BIOL 206, 207; HPS 315, 380; admission to Coaching Practicum.* 30 hours at the 300-400 level are required. Course requirements include HPS 305, 315, 380, 405, 430 and 465.

History
A total of 20 hours at the 300-400 level are required. Students must choose one of the four tracks in history and complete the hours as specified in that track. Prerequisites for individual courses can be found in the course description section of the catalog. The tracks are as follows:

(A) General History: Choose one course from each of the courses offered in World History, U.S. History, European History and one additional course from any track.

(B) World History: History 305 (required). Choose three additional courses from: HIST 366, 373, 374, 382, 391, 392, 467.

(C) U.S. History: Choose any four courses from: HIST 311, 315, 321, 331, 332, 334, 335, 340, 341, 404, 410, 411, 451, 461, 471, 475. (D) European History: Choose any four courses from: HIST 301, 305, 350, 351, 360, 361, 437, 440, 444, 454, 456. History 400 or History 490 courses may be allowed in any track with approval of Department Chair.

Human Services
Prerequisite for this minor is HS 233 or PSY 201.* Select 20 hours from the following: HS 313, 320, 322, 324, 335, 410, 415 or 420.

Information Systems
CS 100 or IS 210 or DSC 205 are prerequisites for the required courses leading to a minor in information systems.* Select 20 hours from the following: CS 325, any IS course numbered 300 or above, except IS 396 and IS 398.

International Studies
Prerequisite for this minor is POLS 205.* Students must take POLS 334 and 15 hours from the following: GEOG 312, HIST 366, 373, 374, 392, POLS 334, 430, 436, 451, 452, 453, 454. Beyond POLS 334, Political Science majors must choose their hours from a discipline other than political science.

Latin American Studies
Prerequisites are POLS 201, HIST 205 & 206.* To complete a 20-hour LAS minor, students must take one of the following courses: HIST 366 or POLS 453 and, 10-15 hours from: ART 355, HIST 366, HIST 467, POLS 436, POLS 453, SPAN 301, SPAN 310, SPAN 311, SPAN 450, SPAN 427, appropriate 490 Special Topics course, or 300-400 level Latin American Studies abroad program. Students shall take no more than two courses for the LAS minor in any one discipline. No more than one directed study can be taken in the LAS minor. Students must demonstrate language proficiency in French, Portuguese or Spanish through the 102 level. From among the minor course offerings, students may take a maximum of one course (5 hours) that falls within their major discipline.

Legal Studies
Prerequisites for this minor are POLS 201 and Admissions to Coles College of Business for business majors or 90 credit hours for non business majors.* Students select 20 credit hours from the following courses with a maximum of ten hours in political science for political science majors: POLS 315, POLS 320, POLS 410, POLS 411, POLS 415, POLS 420, BL 340, BL 410, BL 420, BL 430, BL 440, BL 490. Management Available to non-business majors only. Courses required for a minor (20 credit hours) in Management are: MGT 360 and MGT 460 or 461 and two other management or BA 400- level electives.*

Marketing
Available to non-business majors only. Courses required for a minor (20 credit hours) in Marketing are: MKT 370, MKT 415 and two other marketing courses except MKT 499.*

Mathematics
The Mathematics minor will consist of any four courses from the following MATH courses: MATH 300, 310, 311, 322, 324, 331, 332, 333, 334, 335, 345, 361, 362, 381, 382, 395, 400, 410, 425, 450, 460, 490.*

Native American Studies
Prerequisites for this minor include ANTH 105 or 201; SOCI 105 or 201; HIST 151, 152, 205 and 206.* Students must take ANTH 321 and ANTH 421 and ten hours from the following list: ANTH 321, 421, 310; HIST 315, 410, 467; SOCI 314. Appropriate Directed Studies (400) or Special Topics (490) with approval of the Chair, Department of Public Administration & Human Services.

Philosophy
Prerequisites for this minor are PHIL 100 and ENGL 102.* A minor in philosophy consists of two courses (10 hours) in the history of philosophy (PHIL 310 and PHIL 315) and two courses (10 hours), but no more than one directed study, from any of the following: PHIL 301, 305, 320, 400, 410, 415, 420, 425 and 490.

Professional Sales
Available to non-business majors only. Courses required for a minor (20 credit hours) in Professional Sales are: MKT 370 and MKT 440 and two courses selected from the following: MKT 443, 445 or 485.*

Psychology
PSY 201 is a prerequisite for the minor.* Twenty hours at the 300-400 level are required. Students must choose one of four tracks in psychology and complete three of the four courses listed for a particular track. (Note: some courses within a track are required). The remaining five hours may be selected from any of the upper division psychology course offerings. The tracks are: 1) General Psychology; PSY 305, 345, 410, 430; 2) Applied Psychology: PSY 305, 335, 420 (required), 430; 3) Industrial and Organizational Psychology: PSY 325, 370 (required), 420, 470 (required); and 4) Scientific/Experimental Psychology: PSY 345, 410, 415, 455.

Sociology
The prerequisite for this minor is Sociology 201.* To complete a minor in Sociology, students take 20 hours selected from the following sociology courses: SOCI 301, 304, 314, 324, 334, 351, 352, 354, 364, 374, 424, 432, 442, 443, 444, 464 and 490. Spanish Prerequisite for this minor is SPAN 202 with a minimum grade of “C” or permission of instructor.* Courses required for a minor in Spanish are SPAN 302, 303, 310 or 311 and any 400 - level course in Spanish.

Urban Studies
Prerequisite is POLS 201. SOCI 201 is recommended.* Students take 20 hours selected from the following: GEOG 300, POLS 343, POLS 412, SOCI 314, SOCI 444, SOCI 464. Students may not take more than one minor course in their major field.

Women’s Studies
Twenty hours are selected from the following courses: HIST 341, SOCI 324, PSY 425, BIOL 384, NURS 422, PHIL 415 or appropriate special topics courses in ENGL, POLS, HIST or PHIL.* Students may not take more than one minor course in their major field and not more than two minor courses in any one discipline.

Writing
Prerequisites for this minor are ENGL 205 and 206.* Twenty hours from among ENGL 302, 304, 306, 310, 311, 312 or 407. A student must select five hours of ENGL 311 or 312.
