Tips for parents Be supportive but let go. Your student is becoming an adult. Listen, help your student with decision making strategies, encourage and empower. Let your student make mistakes and learn about consequences (this is probably the hardest one). Encourage your student to get organized. Tabs, notebooks, place to study, regular times--all tools of the trade of good study skills. Help with “plan ahead” strategies. Any experiences at home to develop good study habits will be very useful at college. Have fun. Not all learning is in the classroom. Come join them to enjoy arts, music, the green, walks, ping pong, and conversations with new friends. Marjorie Economopoulos, Department Chair |
