Joint Enrollment Honors Program

Frequently asked questions

WHAT ARE THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOINT ENROLLMENT HONORS PROGRAM?

Five components make up the Joint Enrollment Honors Program admissions formula:

  • SAT score of 1100 (or ACT composite score of 24)
  • SAT Verbal score no lower than 530 (or ACT English score of 23)
  • SAT Math score no lower than 530 (or ACT Math score of 22)
  • high school academic grade point average of at least 3.0 in courses used to satisfy the 16 College-Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) requirements
  • applicants must be juniors or seniors on track to complete a college-prep diploma in a high school with proper accreditation recognized by the University System of Georgia

WHAT CONSTITUTES A COMPLETED ADMISSIONS FILE?

A complete admissions file includes:

If accepted, a Joint Enrollment Consent Form is mailed to the student. This form is completed by the student, parent or guardian, and high school guidance counselor.

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION AND DOCUMENT DEADLINES FOR THE 2007 FALL SEMESTER?

The deadline for submitting the application and supporting documents is March 16, 2007. The Joint Enrollment Consent Form may be received after the deadline since it is mailed to the student after their acceptance into the program.

WHAT COURSES MAY I TAKE AS A JOINT ENROLLMENT STUDENT?

For high school seniors, English, math and social science courses taken at Kennesaw State count for dual credit, satisfying high school requirements while the student earns college credit. With high school counselor approval, some Kennesaw State courses may also be used to satisfy additional academic units required by many University System of Georgia institutions. To take selected science and foreign language courses at Kennesaw State, all students must first complete college-prep requirements in these subject areas at their high school. See Accel approved courses for credits that will be paid for from HOPE scholarship funds. Course options for high school juniors are more restrictive. Please see the Courses for JEHP Juniors section of this site for more information.

HOW MANY COURSES MAY I TAKE AS A JOINT ENROLLMENT STUDENT?

The student, parent(s) or guardian(s), and high school counselor determine the number of courses the student will take. Students may attend Kennesaw State part-time, taking one to three courses per semester. Some attend as a full-time student, taking four or five courses per semester. Full-time Joint Enrollment students do not usually attend high school at all - which could jeopardize a student's participation in high school athletics or extracurricular activities. Please check with your high school counselor to determine the number of courses you are eligible to take.

MUST JOINT ENROLLMENT STUDENTS TAKE ONLY DAY COURSES?

No. Joint Enrollment students may take morning, afternoon, evening, weekend classes, or a combination. Most day classes meet on a Monday-Wednesday schedule or a Tuesday-Thursday schedule (one hour and 15 minutes each day). Evening classes usually meet two nights a week: either Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday. A small number of classes that meet one day per week are also available.

ARE THERE SPECIAL HONORS CLASSES FOR JOINT ENROLLMENT STUDENTS?

Students who begin the Joint Enrollment Honors Program in the fall semester as a senior may register for Honors courses in English, Precalculus, Calculus I, Political Science and Economics. Joint Enrollment students may also register for courses that do not have Honors designation.

WHAT COSTS MUST JOINT ENROLLMENT STUDENTS PAY?

Accel Program :
The state-funded Postsecondary Options Program, administered by the Georgia Department of Education, has been discontinued. The Accel Program was created by the 2004 Georgia General Assembly to serve a similar purpose for eligible high school students enrolled in college degree-level courses.

Beginning Fall term 2004, Kennesaw State University Joint Enrollment Honors Program students enrolled in eligible public high schools, can receive an Accel Program award.

Beginning Spring term 2005, the program will expand to also include students enrolled in eligible private Georgia high schools.

Beginning Spring term 2005 , Accel Program funding will apply to only to the five CPC areas of course work (English language Arts, Math Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language).

How much will Accel pay?
The award amount for Accel is the same structure as for the HOPE Scholarship Program. The tuition, mandatory fees, and a book allowance will be awarded.

At KSU, students will be responsible for the remainder of their book costs.

ALL HOURS PAID FOR BY THE ACCEL PROGRAM WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE COMBINED PAID HOURS (127 SEMESTER HOURS) LIMIT.

ARE JOINT ENROLLMENT COURSES TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER COLLEGES?

All JEHP courses with a "C" or better will transfer easily within the University System of Georgia. It is rare that courses will not transfer to non-system, out of state, or private colleges and universities. Please contact the institution you are planning to attend for information regarding the transfer of specific courses.

WHAT STEPS MUST I TAKE TO CONTINUE MY ENROLLMENT AT KSU FOLLOWING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION?

The spring semester of the senior year is the last semester a Joint Enrollment student may attend KSU without re-applying for admission. Following high school graduation, the student must re-apply for "beginning freshman" status and submit a final high school transcript showing all senior year grades and date of high school graduation. Readmission applications are available on the web site at www.kennesaw.edu and in the Office of Admissions. No fee is required for readmission. The readmission application and final high school transcript must be received in the Office of Admissions prior to the fall admission deadline.

CAN A HOME SCHOOL STUDENT BE IN THE JOINT ENROLLMENT HONORS PROGRAM?

KSU values the educational experiences of home-schooled students and has a long history of working with home-schooled students in the Admissions process.

A number of home-schooled students participate in the Joint Enrollment Honors Program each year.

According to Board of Regents policy, to be eligible for Joint Enrollment, home-schooled students must attend an accredited center endorsed by the Accrediting Commission for Independent Study (ACIS) or the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC).

Home-schooled students must also meet the same JEHP admissions standards as other students, including high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores. Home-schooled students who attend an accredited center endorsed by the Accrediting Commission for Independent Study (ACIS) or the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC) may be eligible to participate in the high school/college Joint Enrollment Program based on review of academic preparation (on track to complete CPC).

Home-schooled students not enrolled in an accredited center would not be eligible for the Joint Enrollment/Accel programs.

The Joint Enrollment Honors Program is a selective process based on both university and Georgia Board of Regent standards. KSU reserves the right to refuse or limit entry.
