1. What happens at orientation and how long does it last?

First-year orientation lasts approximately 7 hours and includes breakout sessions about financial aid, parking, campus services, and student life. Students meet in small group settings with LINK (Leaders in Kennesaw) students to learn about academic policies and procedures followed by academic advising and registration. Lunch is provided for first-year students.

Transfer orientation lasts approximately 4 hours and includes participation in small group meetings with LINK (Leaders in Kennesaw) students to learn about academic policies and procedures followed by academic advising and registration. Snacks are provided.

2. Are students required to attend orientation?

All first-year, full-time students are required to attend orientation. Part-time students and transfer students are strongly encouraged to attend.

3. Is there a fee for orientation?

We charge a fee for student and parent orientations.
Fees cover costs of publications, supplies and food.

4. Are parents allowed to attend orientation?

Parents are required to attend a separate parent orientation. Due to the size of our student groups we do not have space for parents, siblings, friends or significant others in our orientation sessions. The purpose of student orientation is to provide opportunities for new students to make connections with faculty, staff, student leaders and other incoming students. Your son or daughter will spend the day with orientation and advising personnel and
trained student leaders. The parent session will mirror the information provided in the student session.

5. Will we receive information in the mail regarding orientation?

Yes. Orientation information and dates are mailed to admitted students each semester. Parent orientation information is mailed parents prior to fall semester. Information is also available each semester on the
Student Success Services Orientation Programs Center website at http://www.kennesaw.edu/studentsuccess/orientation/

6. How do students and parents register and pay for orientation?
Students and parents must register and pay for orientation. Registration and payment for student orientation is separate from registration and payment for parent orientation. The student fee does not include the parent fee. Instructions for registration and payment are included in the student and parent information and at:
http://www.kennesaw.edu/studentsuccess/orientation/

7. Do I have to be advised before attending orientation?

Students are advised at orientation; however some advising centers recommend pre-orientation advising, especially for transfer students. Information from the college of the student’s designated major is included on the personalized invitation and is also available online at the Student Success Services website.

8. Are students required to stay for the entire orientation session?

In order to register for classes, students must stay for the entire session.

9. What should a student bring to orientation?

We recommend that students dress casually and appropriately for weather conditions. We also recommend bringing a printed copy of the online orientation confirmation and a photo copy of a valid government issued photo ID such as driver’s license, military ID, passport, etc. Transfer students are encouraged to bring a copy of their transcripts from other universities. Prior to orientation students must complete the online automobile registration to received their parking hangtag/decal by logging onto  http://www.kennesaw.edu/idservices/
