The Collectors’ Vision:
Latin American Art in Georgia Collections

The media and art patrons have recognized KSU for its quality exhibitions of Latino and Latin American Art for many years. This exhibition showcases works from collectors of Latin American Art for the first time in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The exhibition will include a catalog and lectures by artists and scholars in collaboration with the Center for Hispanic Studies during Hispanic Heritage Month in October.

Premiere Series: Jennifer Larmore, mezzo-soprano.
Jennifer Larmore’s operatic début in 1986 as Sesto in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito in France marked the start of a brilliant international career in which operas of Rossini, Bellini, Mozart and Handel have come to figure prominently. After a triumphant decade in Europe, she returned to the United States for her Metropolitan Opera début in 1995. Since then, she has continued to perform and record around the world with the most impressive orchestras and opera companies. With this recital, the Georgia-born superstar returns to her home county for an intimate evening.

January 18-March 3
Merging East and West: Chen Zhen’s Cross-Cultural Installations.
Chen Zhen (1955-2000) is an internationally renowned artist who combined Eastern sensibility with Western contemporary aesthetics. His works are critical satires with political, economic, and cultural overtones or meditations on the interface between matter and spirit. This exhibition features five installations, created over the last five years of his life, that engage viewers in the power of objects to create metaphysical connections to the transcendent. Presented as part of the KSU Celebration of the Year of China. This exhibtion and its guest lectures have been made possible, in part, through funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Cultural Services of the French Embassy and Georgia Humanities Council. Hou Hanru Lectures on “Transexperience: Chen Zhen’s Art and Thoughts”
This world-renowned writer on contemporary Chinese art will discuss the life and work of Chen Zhen. Presented as part of the KSU Celebration of the Year of China.

Juan Logan: Caught Off Guard, Selected Works from 1965-2005.
The paintings and sculptures in this 40-year retrospective of Juan Logan’s work explore the impact of racism, social change and injustice with symbolically charged images and the healing power of ritual objects rooted in the rural black South of his past. His art reflects the changes he-and society-has experienced in America since the 1960s, and challenges viewers to move beyond our differences to an understanding of our shared humanity.

The College of the Arts presents its annual evening of dinner, dancing and silent/live auctions to benefit endowed scholarships and student-learning initiatives.  This year, the event will honor Dean Joseph Meeks’ 30th Anniversary at Kennesaw State.

23rd Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition.
This spirited competition, held every spring, is open to all students on campus and offers cash prizes in nine categories. Many of the works are for sale.

Georgia Artists with DisAbilities.
There is nothing disabled about the creative visions of these artists, many of whom have achieved national recognition for their drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, fabric design, jewelry or ceramics. This traveling exhibition features works from the 2005-2006 Annual Juried Competition.
