Sculpture and students participate in iron pour

By Cheryl Anderson Brown

In the middle of Georgia’s continuing drought, it was pouring liquid of another kind when several Kennesaw State University , staff and students participated in the 35th Annual Georgia State University Christmas Iron Pour on Dec. 15. Instead of rain from the heavens, molten iron poured into scratch molds created by the participants.

KSU artists Debbie Hutchinson, Ayokunleye Odeleye, Maria Sarmiento and Keith Smith; KSU staff studio technician Chris Dziejowski; and KSU students Nikki Starz, Kyle Howser, Dustin Baker, Zach Martin and Sylvia Pelletier all participated.

“The students had a terrific time,” said Dziejowski, who coordinated the event with Georgia State. “Kennesaw State was very well represented.”

The piece Dziejowski created that night is currently on display in the Annual Art & Staff Exhibition in the Art Gallery in the Sturgis Library.
