The Kennesaw State University Mixed Chamber Ensembles perform on April 14 at 8 p.m. in the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center.
Chamber music is traditionally composed for small groups of instrumental performers, with each performer playing a different part of the composition. This performance, featuring talented students of the KSU School of Music, will include “Vocalise” by Sergei Rachmaninoff for violin and piano; “Ain’t Necessarily So” from the opera “Porgy and Bess” by George Gershwin; Sonata no. 1 in D major for violin and piano by Ludwig Van Beethoven; “A Piano Quartet in G minor” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; “String Serenade” by Beethoven; “Concerto” for oboe, violin and piano by Johann Sebastian Bach; and Sonata in F major for four-hand piano by Mozart.
David Watkins, director of keyboard studies, invites the Kennesaw State community to hear “an excellent performance of small chamber ensembles by the talented students of KSU. It is a body of repertoire that is not heard very often.” According to Watkins, generally, symphonic and choral performances perform frequently throughout the semester. But chamber music performances are a somewhat rarer event. The mixed chamber ensembles perform once a semester, so this performance is not one to miss.
Admission to this event is free. For additional information and directions to the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center, please contact the KSU Box Office at 770-423-6650 or online at www.kennesaw.edu/arts.
