The Athos Menaboni Collection catalog produced last year for the KSU Art Museum & Galleries recently won the "Top Gold Award" from the Printing & Imaging Association of Georgia. The catalog was honored in the best digital printing category, recognizing the work of the printing company, Complete Printing Services, which recently changed its name to Fuse Graphics Atlanta.
"This was a particularly challenging project for the printer," said Cheryl Anderson Brown, public relations director for the KSU College of the Arts. "We asked them to produce a limited quantity, perfect-bound, 64-page book on an extremely small budget. At that same time, it had to accurately present the colors and quality of the works in the Menaboni Collection."
To meet that challenge, the team at Fuse Graphics decide to produce the book using its state-of-the-art digital NexPress.
“Good digital design doesn’t happen by accident,” said Brian West, account executive for Fuse Graphics Atlanta. “And it’s not as simple as taking a great offset piece and transferring it to a digital press. The College of the Arts took a lot of care during the design stage to leverage the strengths of the digital printing process, and it’s that kind of professionalism that wins recognition in the industry.”
Fuse was selected to work with the KSU College of the Arts following a competitive bidding process. Under the contract, they produce all of the college's digital and offset printing projects. These include Flourish magazine, the season calendar, the art exhibition announcement cards and special event invitations.
The Menaboni Collection catalog was produced in conjunction with the dedication of Phase I of the KSU Art Museum, which includes the Don Russell Clayton Gallery, home of the Menaboni Collection. The catalog features all of the original paintings, lithographs, Christmas cards and other items that were in the collection as of spring 2008. Several new pieces have been gifted to the university since then and many works have been loaned from corporate collections for the current exhibition, "Athos Menaboni: Conversations with Nature." A catalog for that exhibition is presently in production at Fuse Graphics.
The Menaboni Collection catalog proved popular among museum visitors and Menaboni enthusiasts; it sold out quickly. To reserve a copy of the upcoming catalog, contact the KSU Art Museum & Galleries office at 770-499-3223.
