Kennesaw State will host 24th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

KENNESAW, Ga.The College of the Arts at Kennesaw State University will present the 24th Annual Juried Student Exhibition April 25 through May 17 in the Sturgis Library Gallery. An opening reception will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 25.

             

This exhibition offers juror’s choice awards in ceramics, drawing, graphic design, mixed media/alternative processes, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture, which will be announced at the opening reception in conjunction with the presentation of the 2007-2008 art scholarship recipients at 8 p.m.

             

The 24th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition continues the tradition of excellence established by Visions, Kennesaw State’s official student art organization. Visions was founded in 1983 by Roberta Griffin, retired member and previous director of the galleries program.

             

This year’s juror, Lisa Dewberry Thrower, is currently the manager of collections and exhibitions for The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA), overseeing the Museum's permanent collection and all aspects of the exhibition schedule.  Thrower co-curated “Striking Comparisons” in 2004 and “Within State Lines” in 2006, both at MOCA GA.  She also acted as co-juror for the “Roswell Photographic Society Juried Exhibition” in 2006. Most recently, Thrower curated MOCA GA’s exhibition, “Drawn in Georgia: Works on Paper from the MOCA GA Permanent Collection.” Thrower has served on The Visual Arts Network of Atlanta’s (VANA) executive steering committee since January 2005, and is currently acting VANA director. She is also a member of the Agnes Scott College art advisory committee. 

The 24th Annual Juried Student Exhibition continues through Thursday, May 17. All gallery events are free and open to the public. Sturgis Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday evenings; and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays. The gallery is located in the Horace W.
