The Kennesaw State University choral ensembles are gearing up for a unique event. The three groups—the KSU Women’s Chorus, Chorale and Chamber Singers—will present a joint fall concert on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center.
With selections from the 16th century through the 20th century, the concert program offers variety in theme as well as time period. “There will be something for everyone,” said KSU Director of Choral Activities Leslie Blackwell, “from fun and serious to spiritual and affecting.” Blackwell and Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education Alison Mann will serve as conductors for the concert.
The final two pieces of the evening will be of particular interest to audiences, according to Blackwell. “Saul” by Egil Hovland includes narration by KSU Theatre and Performance Studies Chair John Gentile. “The piece is modern, avant garde,” said Blackwell. Ending the concert is “Rock-A Mah Soul” arranged by Charles H. Gilchrist, during which the combined choral groups will sing.
The Oct. 14 concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Bailey Performance Center. Admission is $5. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.kennesaw.edu/arts.
