Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus previews its holiday concert at Kennesaw State

On Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m., the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus will hold a preview performance of their holiday concert at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center at Kennesaw State University. Historically, the chorus has performed mainly in downtown Atlanta, so having them visit KSU is a wonderful opportunity for both chorus and campus, according to AGMC Executive Director Brenda Pruitt.

The concert, “All Spruced Up…and KNOW Where to Go!” features more than 100 choral members performing a selection of holiday music. The pieces include a medley of music from the movie “White Christmas,” the Spanish medieval carol “Riu, Riu, Chiu” and an arrangement of “Silver Bells” by AGMC Musical Director Kevin Robison that is a repeat favorite from last year’s concert.

“We are excited and ready for the concert,” says Pruitt. “The Bailey Center is a fabulous facility and we look forward to performing there.”

KSU is also pleased to be hosting the concert. “The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus always puts on an entertaining, lively show,” Bailey Performance Center Manager Bobby Asher says. “I can’t wait to hear them in the fine acoustics of the Bailey Center.”

The concert, which lasts approximately two hours with intermission, is a mixture of solos, group singing and pieces that feature solo lines with the group joining in for the chorus.

“Our holiday show is a fun, inclusive show,” Pruitt says. “We make it a family-friendly event and we usually see our highest percentage of attendees at this concert.” Asher adds, “It’s going to be a fun afternoon for everyone.”

There is a $20 admission fee for the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus preview concert on Dec. 7. Tickets are available at the KSU box office and online at www.kennesaw.edu/arts.

After the preview concert at KSU, the chorus will present its holiday concert on Dec. 12 and 13 at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta.
