By Jarmea L. Boone
Professor of Music David Watkins will perform a faculty recital at 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 in the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center. This will be his final solo recital before his retirement from Kennesaw State University where he has taught for nearly three decades.
Watkins, an International Steinway Artist, made his solo recital debut in Carnegie Hall in May 1986. Since then, he has received countless awards, performed in the most elite venues and taught in master classes and at music festivals. Watkins will officially retire from in 2010 to focus on recording and performing.
His Jan. 12 performance will feature Sonata in D Major, Op. 28 “Pastorale” by Ludwig van Beethoven, David Burge’s Sonata No. 3 and Sonatina for Piano, and Sonata in b minor, Op. 58 by Frederic Chopin. This event is free.
Watkins is also scheduled to perform the Piano Concerto #3 by Rachmaninoff with the KSU Orchestra on March 17. For tickets to that event, call the KSU Box Office at 770-423-6650.
