Award-winning composer Sy Brandon participated in a residency in the School of Music on March 4. Not only did he work with students in Associate Professor Laurence Sherr's composition students (below right), but he also presented a master class with Artist-in-Residence Tom Gibson's trombone students (above and right). Brandon's compositions have been heard on NPR's "Performance Today," Animal Planet and MTV's "Never Before Scene." He is the author of the book, "A Composer's Guide to Understanding Music." His work draws upon jazz and folk music, but also employs more abstract styles.
