prof selected for Huntsville show
Kennesaw State University Assistant Professor of Art Robert
Sherer has been accepted into "The Red Clay Survey: the
Eighth Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Southern Art."
The competition and exhibition of winners is held every two years
at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Huntsville, Alabama.
This major regional exhibition "takes the pulse" of
contemporary art in the Southeast through a selection of works
in all styles and media determined by a juror with strong national
credentials. "This year's juror, Norman Lundin, has selected
a particularly thoughtful show, with a range of strong work in
a wide variety of media and styles," according to Peter Baldaia,
the chief curator for the museum. "Of the 885 slides submitted,
the juror's final selection included 67 works by 63 artists."
Robert Sherer's contribution to the exhibition is a 60" x
72" painting titled "Hunter/Gatherer." The large
oil-on-canvas depicts a nocturnal woodland scene of a sleeping
female figure and her mysterious male guardian. Sherer's reputation
is primarily built upon his paintings of enigmatic scenes of southerners
partying in the woods at night.
Initiated in 1988, the Red Clay Survey was a joint effort between
the Huntsville Museum of Art and Huntsville Art League. Since
that time, the Museum has assumed sole sponsorship of the show,
which has grown in prestige throughout the region with an increasing
number of respected, professional artists entering and being selected.
The exhibit will run Sept. 8-Nov. 10. For more information contact
the Huntsville Museum of Art at 256-535-4350 or visit on the Web
