Students Show Their Best Works

Once, twice, three times a winner: senior art major Samuel T. Parker has won "Best of Show" in the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition for the third year in a row. Parker was honored for "Earth, Water, Wind and Fire," a spiralling vortex representing the four elements, at an awards ceremony on April 14.

Sponsored by the student art organization, Visions, the competitive show employs a different professional artist to judge the show each year. This year's judge was Wayne Kline, director of Rolling Stone Press, the only lithography atelier in Atlanta. He reviewed nearly 100 works of student art in various media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, photography and graphic design.

Taking top honors in the various categories this year were Scott Autry (painting), Laura Linzie(drawing), Gayle Maglione (ceramics), Lauren Oates (sculpture), Jeff Gaines (photography), Laura Patti (graphic design) and Sara Daley (printmaking). The winners receive cash prizes from Visions or gift certificates from sponsors.

The 20th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition is on display until May 5 in the Sturgis Library Art Gallery. Click here to view the full list of winners.
