VKSU has both dated events and on-going opportunities in many areas of interest. The dated events are outlined below. Please review and then come to the VKSU office (enter at Student Center room 267) to let us know where you would like to volunteer and to get your Service Verification Form. Please Note Policies that are Effective Summer 2012:
  • Volunteers must register with VKSU prior to volunteering for any volunteer assignment.
  • Volunteers can only volunteer at agencies and/or events that have been approved by VKSU prior to their start date. Agencies and/or events cannot be approved after you have you begun volunteering and/or completed your volunteer assignment. VKSU reserves the right to remove and/or add an agency and/or event at any time.
  • All VKSU hours must be documented on a VKSU Service Verification Form that you obtain from the VKSU office prior to your volunteer activity.
  • Letters, emails, faxes, and/or phone calls from the individual agencies will notbe accepted.
  • VKSU will not award volunteer credit to any volunteer who fails to follow these policies and procedures!

FALL ON-CAMPUS EVENTS


Adult Learner Programs (ALP) – KSU Campus
  • Need volunteers for the Adult Learner Information Seminar. Duties include, but not limited to, the following: transporting supplies, help with lunch service, and support ALP staff.
  • Thursday, August 16
  • Time: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
  • Maximum of five (5) volunteers needed for this assignment.

American Red Cross Blood Drive - University Rooms
  • Volunteers are needed to assist with registration and the canteen area. Registration volunteers will greet and check in donors. Volunteers in the canteen area will monitor donors for potential side effects experienced due to blood donation. Additionally, canteen volunteers will distribute snacks, beverages, and American Red Cross incentives.
  • Tuesday, September 11
    • Two shifts: 8:45 am – 1:00 pm & 12:45 pm – 5:30 pm
  • Wednesday, September 12
    • Two shifts: 8:45 am – 1:00 pm & 12:45 pm – 5:30 pm
  • Need six (6) volunteers per shift - 3 at the registration table & 3 at the canteen table
  • YOU MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE ENTIRE SHIFT!

Adult Learner Programs (ALP) – KSU Campus

  • Volunteers needed to assist with the annual Family Fun Day celebration. Duties include, but not limited to, the following: transport supplies and set up in UV Rooms and gym, greet and interact with participants, assist with field games, crafts and face painting, lunch service, taking pictures, distribute and collect handouts, and support the ALP staff as needed.
  • Saturday, October 6
  • Time: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm (must stay for the entire shift)
  • Maximum of ten (10) volunteers needed for this event.


Adult Learner Programs - University Rooms

  • Family Fun Day. Looking for Early Educations majors only. Volunteers will transport supplies; greet and interact with children and parents; help children with crafts and field games; and assist with other Family Fun Day activities as determined by the event organizer.
  • Saturday, October 6
  • Time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
  • Volunteers can stay longer if they would like to continue interacting with the children!
  • Maximum of six (6) volunteers needed for this assignment!


KSU Farm Project

  • Group opportunities to work at the KSU farm in Ball Ground. Dates and detailshere.
  • Note: Students must register with VKSU one week prior to the date of service.

FALL OFF-CAMPUS EVENTS


AIDS Walk - Atlanta (AID Atlanta office)
  • Need volunteers to assist with the Phone Banking Project. Volunteers in the Phone Banking area make telephone calls to previous years' walkers, volunteers, and fundraisers. Phone Banking is essential to the overall success of AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run! Volunteers will be provided with a script to make the phone calls and food to help you stay focused.

  • Volunteers needed Now - September 27
Acworth Parks and Recreation Department – Acworth
    • Looking for volunteers to work with athletes one-on-one; athletes have physical and cognitive disabilities. Volunteers will help the athletes bat, run the bases, and work with them in the outfield. The age ranges of the athletes are 5-22 years old. Games last 2 innings or 45 minutes.
    • Program is held on Saturdays and runs September 15 – October 20
    • Time: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
    • Note: You can volunteer for one day or multiple days
Ahimsa House – Various locations in Metro Atlanta
    • Ahimsa House provides emergency pet safehousing, veterinary care, pet-related safety planning, legal advocacy, a 24-hour crisis line, outreach programs, and other services to help the human and animal victims of domestic violence across Georgia reach safety together.
    • Ahimsa House needs volunteers for the following events:

      • Dog Washes – help groom (bathe & dry) dogs to raise money for Ahimsa House
        • Saturday, September 8, from Noon – 5:00 pm in West Cobb
        • Saturday, October 6, from Noon – 5:00 pm in Sandy Springs
        • Saturday, November 17, from Noon – 5:00 pm in West Cobb
      • Walk, Wag, N’ Run – assist with concessions, dog contests, registration, and other festival duties
        • Saturday, August 25, from 6:00 am – 10:00 am in Buckhead
      • PGA Tour Championship – serve food and drinks at the Ahimsa House concession tent; money collected from this event helps funds Ahimsa House programs!
        • Wednesday, September 19 - 7:30 am – 11:30 am and/or 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
        • Thursday, September 20 through Sunday, September 23 - 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and/or 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
        • Event is held in Atlanta (Near East Lake)
        • Must be 21 years or older to volunteer at the PGA Tour Championship

Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia – Atlanta (Atlantic Station)

    • Need volunteers for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Volunteers will assist with the following race related duties, but not limited to, the following: set up, working registration tables, distributing t-shirts, be a course monitor, serving at the water stations, and assisting with breakdown.
    • Saturday, September 29
    • Time: 6:00 am – Noon


Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia – Duluth (Duluth Town Green)

    • Need volunteers for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Volunteers will assist with the following race related duties, but not limited to, the following: set up, working registration tables, distributing t-shirts, be a course monitor, serving at the water stations, and assisting with breakdown.

    • Time: 6:00 am – Noon


American Cancer Society – Marietta

    • Volunteers are needed to assist with the 2012 Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society. Volunteers are needed to help assemble goodie bags that will be given the golfers and assist with the 19th Hole Party following the Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament.

American Heart Association – Atlanta (Atlanta Station)

    • Need volunteers for the annual Heart Walk. Volunteers will assist with the following race related duties, but not limited to, the following: set up, working registration tables, distributing t-shirts, be a course monitor, serving at the water stations, and assisting with breakdown.

Atlanta Parent Magazine – Atlanta (Mercer University)

    • Need volunteers to assist with the annual Family Block Party. Volunteer duties included the following: set up, take down, help and run events, and other duties as determined by the Volunteer Coordinators.
    • Actual assignments will be made two (2) weeks prior to the event.

      • Friday, October 12 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm
      • Saturday, October 13 from 7:30 am – 10:30 am / 9:00 am – 1:00 pm / 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm / 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm / all day
    • You may register for multiple shifts
    • Must register for this event by Friday, September 14!


Be The Match – Atlanta (Atlantic Station)

    • For more than 20 years, the National Marrow Donor Program®, which operates Be The Match, has been helping patients receive life-saving transplants. Volunteers are needed to assist with their annual Be The One Run. Donations collected from this help event help support the mission of Be The Match. Volunteer duties include the following, but not limited to, the following: set up, registration, course support, parking, serving food, assisting with the Tot Trot Race, breakdown, and much more!
    • Saturday, October 20
    • Time: 6:00 am – 11:30 am (times can vary)


Chance Afrika - Woodstock

    • Need volunteers for the 3rd Annual Taming the Nile Run 5K & 10K event. Duties include: registering runners, passing out water/Gatorade, distributing awards, taking pictures, serving as a course monitor, keeping time, and other various duties as assigned by the Race Coordinator.
    • Saturday, October 13
    • Time: 7:00 am - 11:00 am or Noon


Children’s Wish Foundation – Atlanta/Sandy Springs

    • Children's Wish Foundation is dedicated to bringing joy and happiness to children with life-threatening illness around the world. Volunteers are needed to assist with hospital crafts and parties in the Atlanta and/or Sandy Springs area.

      • Tuesday, August 14 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm
      • Tuesday, September 11 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm
      • Tuesday, October 23 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm
    • You must be at least 19 years or older to register for this assignment!
    • You must complete a background check before you can volunteer with this agency! Agency will complete for you prior to your 1st day of service.


Cobb County Youth Museum – Marietta

    • Need volunteers to assist with the 10th Annual BBQ in the Woods. Times and duties include the following:
      • Set up tables/chairs and help with decorations (10 am – 2:00 pm)
      • Put out auction items (2:00 pm – 4:30 pm)
      • Monitor auction tables and give info or help with the raffle (5:00 pm – 8:00 pm)
      • Serve food and clean up (5:00 pm – 9:00 pm)

Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta – Atlanta (Centennial Park)

    • Volunteers are needed to assist with the following race related duties, but not limited to, the following: set up, working registration tables and raffle tables, supervising games, serving food and drink, and assisting with breakdown.

    • Time: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (Shifts are available!)


Japan America Society of Georgia – Duluth

    • Looking for volunteers to assist with JapanFest 2012! Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: collecting tickets, assisting in the children’s area, managing performances stages, answering questions, and other assigned tasks as determined by JapanFest organizers.

      • 9:00 am – 2:30 pm and/or 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm
    • Note: You can volunteer for multiple shifts!


Lazarus Ministries – Atlanta

    • Need volunteers for the annual Health Day. Health Day is a street fair for the homeless where meeting physical needs (medical, hygiene, food, clothing) are intertwined with social needs (laughter, fun, fellowship). Lazarus Ministries partners with other Metro Atlanta non-profits to sponsor this annual event.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) – Atlanta (Turner Field)

    • Volunteers are needed to assist with the annual Walk Like MADD 5K Walk. The Walk Like MADD event allows victims of DUI fatalities to walk and help raise funds to help support MADD’s mission to eliminate drunk driving. Volunteers will assist with race related duties including, but not limited to, the following: set up, serving as race monitors, registration, parking, distributing t-shirts, helping at the finish line, working the water station, and breakdown.

East Cobb Area YMCA’s Fall 2012 Volunteer Opportunities (2 Locations)

    • Location 1: McCleskey East Cobb Y
      • 1055 East Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30062, 770-977-5991

    • Fall Soccer Season (dates tba)
      • Helping monitor practices throughout the week (moving goals, staking goals, directing parents to practice areas. Different dates available.
      • Tournaments, picture days and first game days.
      • Sports Management Internships available for qualified applicants.

    • Family Fun Nights
      • September 8, 6 - 8 pm - Part of our Family Fun Night series which are free and open to both members and the community.
      • November 3, 6 - 8 pm – Gym and Swim party at the Y
      • Volunteers are needed to check in and greet guests and assist staff with a variety of tasks.

    • Halloween Spooktacular
      • October 26, 6 - 8 pm
      • Volunteers are needed the day of the event in several shifts to help setup. Help is also needed at the event to run the booths. Costumes optional.

    • After School Program
      • Monday-Friday 2:30pm - 6pm (school days only)
      • YMCAs are the nation’s largest provider of after-school child care. Activities include: outdoor & indoor fun, healthy snacks, homework help and swimming on Fridays! Volunteers are needed to assist with homework/tutoring and fun and games.

    • Arts and Crafts Fair
      • September 3, 8am - Noon
      • Volunteers are needed to help set up the fair on Friday 9/2 and during the show to help where needed.

    • Dynamite Days Off Camp for ages 5-12
      • November 19-21
      • December 26-28
      • 9am – Noon
      • During school break holiday breaks the Y provides healthy and fun activities for children. Activities include swimming, crafts, sports, group games, and making friends. Volunteers are needed to assist the counselors with supervising/facilitating activities during swim time and throughout the day.

    • Basketball
      • Evaluations: November 10, time TBD
      • Tournament: February 8-10, times TBD
      • Volunteers needed through the day for all kinds of tasks.

    • Flag Football
      • Evaluations: October 28, 1:30 pm

      • Event includes run from Northeast Y to McCleskey Y, followed by a family event. Volunteers are needed the day prior to and the day of the event for many different jobs. Times TBD.

    • Middle School Nights
      • Saturdays, September 22, October 27, December 1
      • 7 - 10 pm
      • Middle Schoolers enjoy a night out of the house with their friends at the YMCA playing dodgeball, shooting hoops and/or just hanging out. Community is welcome. Volunteers are needed to assist staff with supervising/facilitating activities and work concessions stand.

    • Dynamite Days Off Camp - Ages 5-12
      • November 19-21, December 26-28
      • 9 am – Noon
      • During school break holiday breaks the Y provides healthy and fun activities for children. Activities include swimming, crafts, sports, group games, and making friends.
