ON CAMPUS

KSU Farm Project Apple Springs Farm and Apiary Ball Ground Opportunities are available to help plant, weed, hoe, and harvest at the farm. Volunteering at the farm is a great way to earn volunteer service or just learn about organic farming and sustainability practices in a real hands-on-experience.

Mondays (May 7 - November 12)
You can volunteer between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

KSU Grounds Department Various locations around KSU Volunteers are needed to help mow the grass, cut weeds, edge, pick up trash, water the plants, prune, and complete other various tasks as determined by the Crew Supervisor.
  • Monday - Friday from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
  • Maximum of ten (10) volunteers needed daily!
    (2 volunteers per crew)
  • Minimum of four (4) hour shift is required!
KSU Herb Garden Near The Commons Opportunities are available to help plant, weed, hoe, and harvest at the herb garden - by appointment M-F 7am - 5 pm.

BARTOW COUNTY

Good Shepherd Foundation Cartersville Good Shepherd is a sheltered work center for developmentally disabled adults. Services provided to the clients at the center include the following; training on living skills, work behavior, assisting with job searches, etc. Volunteers are needed to work with the clients one-on-one and in groups by assisting them with work-related tasks and the achievement of their personal goals. Additionally, volunteers are needed to assist staff with basic operations of the organization.

Hours of operation:
Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

Orientation is required - TBD and held on individual basis.
Keep Bartow Beautiful Cartersville and various locations in Bartow Co. Volunteer opportunities include: Adopt-a-Road; Adopt-a-Stream; Community gardens; hiking, nature, and tree identification trails; Arbor Day programs; school and community recycling programs; America Recycles day; electronics waste collection; paper shredding events; Great American Cleanup; river cleanups; CelEARTHbration family environmental festival; office volunteers; and school outreach.
North Bartow Community Services Adairsville Volunteers are needed to assist in the following areas:
  • Thrift Store - sort and tag donated items, etc.
  • Food Pantry - prepare food boxes for distribution in pantry
  • Food Prep - prepare and serve items for senior lunches and soup and sandwich suppers
  • Reception - volunteers will perform various administrative duties

BEATS, Inc. Canton Therapeutic riding program designed for children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. Must volunteer for outside opportunities - no therapy options qualify.

Dream Power Therapeutic Equestrian Center Canton Equestrian program for physically and mentally challenged children and adults. Must volunteer for outside opportunities - no therapy options qualify.

Canton Volunteers are needed to stock shelves, move furniture, clean donations, set up displays, and assist customers at the Habitat ReStore.
Manely Kids Woodstock Therapeutic riding program designed for children with special needs. Must volunteer for outside opportunities - no therapy options qualify.

Canton Volunteers are needed to help serve as translators, assist with education and employment assistance for adults, serve in the clothing closet, and assist in the food pantry. Please note: You will not get volunteer credit for administrative duties or laundry service.
The Salvation Army Canton Volunteers are needed to assist in the warehouse. Duties include the following: receiving donations, sorting, cleaning, possibly pricing donations, stocking the store, learning the system of rotating items, and other duties as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator. Monday - Saturday from 9:30 am - 6:15 pm. Minimum of a 4-hour shift is required in order to volunteer.

Books for Africa Smyrna Books for Africa provides books and educational supplies to children and students in Africa. They utilize book donations from individuals, schools, organizations, and publishers to send to Africa. More Information
CAMP Austell Volunteers are needed to collect, sort, and distribute clothing and food to lower income families and individuals. More Information
Camp Gideon Acworth Volunteers are needed to assist with grounds-keeping and indoor cleaning. 3rd Saturday of each month from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, starting February.

Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club Kennesaw Volunteers are needed to help maintain trails, help create new trails, plant flowers, and perform other environmental tasks that help support the historical and recreational value of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. More Information

An organization that offers a broad range of services to help people break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Assist shelter coordinators in providing emergency shelter, groceries, meals, clothing, job assistance, substance abuse counseling, children's programs and health services to low income and homeless people. More Information 
OFH Clothing for a Cause Powder Springs Volunteers will sort and price donations (clothes, accessories, and furniture), help customers on the sales floor, run the cash register, and box clothes for the homeless. The proceeds that are collected from the sales at the thrift store help feed the homeless. Store is open Monday - Saturday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

In addition to the store, volunteers are needed to assist with the Street Reach Homeless Outreach Program. Volunteers are needed to prepare food Thursday evenings in Hiram from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm, or distribute food and/or clothing in downtown Atlanta from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Storehouse Ministries Marietta Assist with job banks for clients, rent, utilities, counseling, food, etc. Volunteers answer phones, record client information on computer, pack food boxes, make sack lunches, stock food pantries, and verify client requests for needs by phone. More Information

Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Cobb
Fulton
Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper provides a number of different volunteer opportunities for people interested in helping to preserve the Chattahoochee River and its watershed through programs in education, community outreach, policy reform, and legal actions. From working all day at a festival or assisting with river clean-ups, there's something available for everyone's skill level, interest and physical ability.

Volunteers are needed only when they have special events - any events will be posted on the Dated Events page.
Wellspring Living Thrift Store Kennesaw Volunteers will sort and price donations (clothes, accessories, and furniture), help customers on the sales floor, and run the cash register. MedShare Decatur Volunteers will take medical supplies donated by hospitals or manufacturers and sort them into specific categories so they can be shipped to hospitals/clinics around the developing world. More Information

Autry Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center Johns Creek Volunteers are needed to help maintain the trails, help create new trails, plant flowers, and other preservation tasks.
Chastain Horse Park Atlanta Must volunteer outside - no therapy options available. Must attend 2-hour orientation offered 3rd Saturday of each month.
Chattahoochee Nature Center Roswell Provide assistance in a variety of areas, including wildlife care, ground maintenance, special events, and store staffing.
Dress for Success Atlanta Work one-on-one with a client to assist her in selecting the appropriate business suit for her interview. In addition, volunteers are needed to organize special events and mentor clients.
Feed the Hungry Atlanta Provide food boxes for needy families all year. Need weekly warehouse volunteers and Saturday box delivery volunteers.
Foster Care Support Foundation Roswell Volunteers are needed to sort clothing, toys and shoes, act as shopping assistants, care for foster children. Note: Minimum length of service is at least two (2) hours per shift.
Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta Atlanta The Furniture Bank provides free essential household furniture to individuals and families moving out of homeless shelters, living with HIV/AIDS, or fleeing domestic violence situations. More Information
Gateway Center Atlanta The Gateway Center is a homeless service organization for men, women, and women with children. The Center provides transitional housing, shelter, and other basic services.

Volunteers can work in the clothing closet. Volunteers must complete a background check. The agency will conduct the background check at no cost. Orientation is required and held on a monthly basis at The Gateway Center. Orientation typically lasts for one hour, and you can count this time towards your service hours. Note: No court-related volunteers.
Georgia State Parks & Historical Sites Atlanta Volunteers needed to maintain campgrounds and golf courses, general volunteers to help with the day-to-day activities at the parks, and volunteers to help with special events that are scheduled year round.
Habitat for Humanity Atlanta Help in the construction of houses for those in need in the Fulton County area. Also, help raise funds to help sponsor houses.

Hosea Feed the Hungry Atlanta Day Center - Prepare food boxes, distribute food boxes, and assist in the warehouse near Turner Field. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:30 am - 2 pm
Housing Initiative of North Fulton (aka HomeStretch) Roswell Homestretch guides homeless working families with minor children in North Metro Atlanta toward increased self-reliance and stability by providing life skills training, mentoring, and supportive housing. Volunteers needed to assist with renovation and landscaping projects at their duplex and town homes. Includes demolition, painting, cleaning, lawn work, and maintenance.
Background check required if working one-on-one with the clients. Orientation required if performing one-on-one training sessions.

Keep North Fulton Beautiful Sandy Springs Collect, sort, and process recyclable items.
N. Fulton Community Charities Roswell Pack groceries for families coming for assistancae, restocking shelves, hanging and sorting clothing and assisting families in thrift store. Minimum length of service is 3 hours per shift.
Project Open Hand Atlanta Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life. More Information

Roswell Recycling Center Alpharetta Collect, sort, and process recyclable goods. More Information

The Drake House Roswell The Drake House is a crisis residential assessment center for homeless women and children in North Fulton. You may volunteer in the food pantry. Minimum length of service is twice per month or once per week.
Trees Atlanta Various locations in Atlanta Volunteers will plant, water, and prune trees. Volunteers will also remove invasive plants from green spaces and help with special projects and fundraisers. More Information

Truly Living Well works to engage the community in developing local food systems through educations and food production. TLW manages 5-6 farm sites in and around metro Atlanta to increase access to food for all. Their goal is to demonstrate agriculture as a sustainable and economic solution for helping people to eat and live better.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in the following areas: gardening, planting, mulching, making compost, harvesting, farm maintenance activities, event planning, hosting booths, assisting with the market, and sharing information with others.

Shepherd's Rest Ministries Dallas Shepherd's Rest provides a safe house and services to women and children who have been displaced from their home due to domestic violence. Volunteers may do warehouse work and lawn maintenance.

Background check is required - must complete at the Paulding County Sheriff's Department. No cost to the volunteer. Orientation is required - held at the facility (dates and time varies)

CARES, Inc. Jasper (Pickens) Volunteers are needed to stock food, fill orders, reception duties, and some counseling. Most opportunities are Mondays 1-3 pm and Fridays from 8:30 am - Noon. Orientation held same day as volunteering.
City of Calhoun Recreation Calhoun (Gordon) Volunteers are needed to organize and assist with sports for youth and adults, ground maintenance, etc.
Forsyth County Community Connection - Hands on Forsyth Forsyth County area Volunteers can register for a variety of different volunteer opportunities throughout the Forsyth County area that range from working with children to serving food at a homeless shelter. 
- Go to the Hands On Forsyth site to register for a volunteer assignment and then come to the VKSU office to get your Service Verification Form.
Helping in His Name Ministry Stockbridge (Henry) Emergency center providing food to need people in Henry County. Minimum length of service is 10 hours.
The Pier Foundation Cumming The Pier Foundation is a non-profit organization that assists disabled adults with job training, employment opportunities, and a better quality of life. The Pier Foundation operates a thrift store to support their mission. Volunteers at the store will process donations, clean the store, and assist disabled adults with their assigned tasks.
