Dodgeball in Central Deck

by Beth Tindel

Every Thursday night from 10 PM until midnight, students are coming together for Underground Dodgeball in the basement of the Central Parking Deck. This event was put together by four students, Keith Sweeney, Chris Lampien, Jason Carver and Seth Carver, whose goal is to break the Guinness Book of World Records for largest dodgeball game. They welcome anyone who wants to play, no matter if you’re a student or a Faculty/Staff member.

Parking first became aware that this was a growing, weekly event in the spring when a Sentinel article was published about it. Since that article appeared, Parking has taken steps to investigate and subsequently support this activity. It was discovered that these games were being taken seriously by the organizers and the participants and that no vandalism or delinquent behavior was involved at all. Once that was determined, the Parking Committee voted in favor of supporting and promoting the event. We then took steps to ensure that liability was mitigated and that an official ‘sponsor’ is present at each event. So far, the group is going strong and continues to increase their numbers on a weekly basis. We wish them all the luck in their endeavor and plan to continue to promote and support them as long as the Central Deck is a reasonable venue for this event.
