All the articles you
see in newspapers and magazines don't just pop out of thin air.
People like you write them.
Getting your work published may seem like
a daunting task, but you can do it. There are many publishing opportunities.
Local publications may provide you with a venue for publishing your work. At
the same time, don't overlook publications that are not based in the Metro
Atlanta area. One of the most attractive facets of freelancing is that you can
write something in Atlanta that is published on the West Coast.
If you are thinking about submitting your work to a publication, you
should learn all you can about it.
• Read several issues of the publication
to get a feel for its "voice," or style of writing.
•
Learn what
the publication expects in terms of submissions:
> Does the publication expect a query letter suggesting an article
topic?
>
Does the publication want you to submit the complete article?
> Does the publication normally assign article topics?
