ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Sponsored by the Kennesaw State University Department of Psychology and Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning, the 21st Annual Southeastern Conference on the Teaching of Psychology is an opportunity for teachers of psychology to discuss and share experiences and techniques. The conference offers concurrent sessions and invited addresses on teaching techniques and issues associated with undergraduate education. Time is also available for participants to get to know each other and establish contacts with fellow teachers throughout the Southeast. Please join us in celebrating teaching excellence in psychology through sharing best practices, innovative ideas for enhancing student learning, and interacting with your colleagues in a supportive and fun atmosphere.
CONFERENCE PROGRAM
Featured keynotes addresses will be given by Regan Gurung (“Shining with Scholarship: Galvanizing your Teaching with SoTL”) and Christy Price ("Why Don't My Students Think I'm Groovy?" Engaging the Millenial Learner"). Concurrent sessions will focus on teaching techniques and issues in specific psychology courses such as statistics, research methods, internships, I/O psychology, the psychology of eating, and introductory psychology. Among other topics, additional sessions will include strategies for assessing course and program learning outcomes, empirically based strategies for improving student learning, student engagement in the classroom, using food to teach psychology, mentoring students in the letters of reference process, the ethics of teaching, semester long projects, and a session for department chairs. Travel
Driving:
The Crowne Plaza Atlanta-Perimeter NW Hotel is conveniently located at 6345 Powers Ferry Road off I-285 at Exit 22, which is one exit east of the junction of I-75 and I-285. (Map link to hotel).
Flying:
If flying into Atlanta, from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport there are several options for reaching the conference hotel. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING A TAXI DIRECTLY FROM THE AIRPORT BECAUSE OF THE DISTANCE AND HIGH COST. You can take the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit System (MARTA) directly from the airport to the Dunwoody (Perimeter Mall) station.
The hotel offers a free shuttle service at specific times to and from this station. PLEASE CONTACT THE HOTEL IN ADVANCE TO COORDINATE ARRIVAL TIMES WITH THEIR SHUTTLE AND RESERVE A SPACE ON THE SHUTTLE TO OR FROM THE MARTA STATION.
Taxi service to the hotel is also available from this station. Call the hotel for recommended taxi companies (1-770-955-1700). The hotel is also accessible by van service from the airport (A&M Limousine, http://www.aandmlimo.com/reservations.asp; Atlanta Hotel Connections, http://www.atlantashuttle.net; Atlanta Metro Shuttle, http://www.airportmetro.com). Advance reservations are REQUIRED and can be done at the shuttle company's Web site!
EXHIBITORS
Over the last several years, SETOP has drawn approximately 160 participants from around the Southeast. This presents an excellent opportunity for publishers and other exhibitors to discuss and present the latest textbooks and resources for teaching psychology to a group of faculty dedicated to teaching. If your company is interested in direct marketing and increasing sales of texts, please consider exhibiting at SETOP. Our rates are extremely competitive and it is a convenient venue for your Atlanta area sales representatives to exhibit with minimal cost. The costs for exhibitors are:
$175 for one table
$225 for two tables
Internet access (additional $250)
Participate in Conference meals and breaks (additional $125)
SPECIAL NOTE: If you are unable to have a person attend SETOP with a display, we will be happy to set up at display for you and collect and forward requests for review copies of texts. The rates will be the same as above. You will need to arrange for shipping to and returns from the conference. We can not guarantee that displayed books will not be “taken” by conference participants since someone will not be stationed at your display (we will post a sign discouraging taking books). If you wish to take advantage of this option, please contact Lynn Lamanac (llamanac@kennesaw.edu or 770-423-6410) to make arrangements.
