Enhancing Undergraduate Research Initiatives

CETL is pleased to offer several funding programs descibed below, which are designed to encourage and enhance undergraduate research at KSU.

Creative Activities and Research Experiences for Teams (CARET) Funding
The Creative Activities and Research Experiences for Teams (CARET) program is designed to enhance undergraduate involvement and experience in research and creative activity. This funding program is designed to encourage and support faculty engagement in research or creative activity with undergraduate student collaborators using a team approach over two semesters (Spring-Summer 2010 or Summer-Fall 2010). The research or creative activity can be one project for all team members or multiple projects across students. Although it is not required, faculty in departments with graduate programs are strongly encouraged to include Graduate Research Assistants as mentors. A complete description of the program, including application materials and criteria, is available at this link (NOTE: This is a Rich Text Format, rtf, document). The deadline for receipt of proposals is September 15, 2009 for Spring-Summer 2010 projects and January 11, 2010 for Summer-Fall 2010 projects.

Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URCA) Funding
CETL will sponsor a limited number of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URCA) Funding Awards during the 2009-2010 academic year. The URCA Funding Awards are designed to enhance undergraduate involvement and experiences in research and creative activity. These Funding Awards may be used for either (a) Travel stipends for undergraduate researchers (Note: Students must be enrolled at KSU during the time period of the travel; the travel must be completed prior to July 2010; the travel must involve a presentation rather than travel for educational purposes only); or (b) Supplies or other project needs for undergraduate research/creative activities.  In order to provide as many opportunities for undergraduate researchers as possible, these Funding Awards will be limited to a maximum of $500.00 each. Individual students may receive only one grant per academic year, although students could apply again the following round if not funded the first time.  Individual faculty and students may only apply for one funding award per fiscal year.  Faculty must be under contract at Kennesaw and students must be enrolled at Kennesaw State during the time period of the funding award.  A complete description of the program, including application materials and criteria, is available at this link (NOTE: This is a Rich Text Format, rtf, document). There are four application due dates during the 2009-2010 academic year: October 1, 2009; December 1, 2009; February 2, 2010; and March 5, 2010.

Global Learning through Undergraduate Scholarship (GLUS) Funding
CETL will sponsor a limited number of Global Learning through Undergraduate Scholarship (GLUS) Funding Awards during the 2009-2010 academic year. The GLUS Funding Awards are designed to promote undergraduate scholarship that has a global component. In order to provide as many opportunities for undergraduate researchers as possible, these Funding Awards will be limited to a maximum of $2,500.00 each. Each GLUS grant will fund the following specific items (any changes must be accompanied by a strong justification):  (a) a summer 2010 stipend for the faculty mentor ($1500) and (b) travel money and/or supplies for at least two undergraduate researchers ($1000).
