Experiential Learning is a fairly broad term that means learning by doing. Much has been written about the value of participatory learning and "experience" occurs naturally in all life situations. However, in education situations, the experiences, or challenges, need to be planned and structured to set the stage for learning.
Challenge Corner is a challenge course that provides the KSU Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Science with a teaching and learning station for HPS majors and for the University. Challenge Corner features a high ropes course where one can challenge their personal limits. The 9 low course elements are used promoting cooperation, trust, communication, and problem-solving for small group experiences.
Challenge Corner is availble for acedemic class services, on campus groups (RSO's, Academic Departments, etc...), and Off Campus Groups (Athletic Teams, Cooporate Groups, etc...) Please explore the links on the left for more details.
A primary mission for Challenge Corner is developing team work and communication through experiential education. Members of organizations are confronted with the value of setting aside individual goals and objectives to take up team's goals and objectives through a journey which embraces and fosters transformation. This change is achieved as individuals participate in challenges that help them become better team members by cultivating and/or renewing team orientation values: TRUTH, ACCOUNTABILITY, SUPPORT, TRUST and ENERGY.
Leadership Development...Leadership can come from any position anywhere in an organization. Individuals in, or being developed for, formal leadership positions can accelerate their skill development through actual, 'on the ground', experiential learning adventures at Challenge Corner.
