Hints on Renewing Your RN License
Georgia Board of Nursing (GBN) Rules on Licensure
The Board Rule for endorsement 410‑7(3)(b) states an applicant licensed in another jurisdiction must be currently licensed (active) under the laws of another NCLEX‑RN jurisdiction until licensure in Georgia is approved. This board must send the verification of licensure form to the nurse who then forwards it in a sealed envelope to the Georgia Board. You can find this verification of licensure by endorsement form on the GBN web site at http://www.sos.state.ga.us/acrobat/ExamBoards/RN/verification_licensure.pdf.

Step by Step Instructions:
A. Current Licensure in Another jurisdiction
- Contact your previous state—request that they send verification of current licensure to you in a sealed envelope for you to include in your application to the GA Board of Nursing.
The directions from the GBN web site are:
“You must complete the top portion of the Verification of Original Licensure then send it to that state where you took your exams and received your original license. Please request they send your verification of licensure in a sealed envelope to you, then include it with your application. If the envelope containing the verification does not remain sealed, it will require a new verification sent directly to the Georgia Board of Nursing. If your licensure in that state is current, it is only necessary to obtain that verification. If your state of original licensure is one of the states that utilizes NURSYS, you must complete the NURSYS form, then send the form with the fee to the address listed on the form. The NURSYS form can be obtained from the Georgia Board of Nursing web site. “

- Contact GBN-begin paperwork for endorsement. This Endorsement process should be completed prior to your registration for this course. See web site above.
- If you have not worked in the last four years Ga. Board will not issue you a license. They will tell you to enroll in a refresher program. They will send you FORM A, B, and C. Once you enroll in the refresher program at KSU, KSU will notify the GBN that you have enrolled by sending them Form A. We will begin working on your preceptor placement, ONLY after we send the name and licensure number of the preceptor to the GBN will you get a temporary permit. This may arrive moments before you are to begin clinical. You absolutely may not set foot into the clinical area until you have a temporary permit in your hand and we have a copy of it in our office.
B. Not Current in Previous Jurisdiction:
- Begin the renewal process in the previous state — request that they send verification of current licensure form to you in a sealed envelop. http://www.sos.state.ga.us/acrobat/ExamBoards/RN/verification_licensure.pdf
