The faculty identified six processes of nursing that are important to provide competent nursing care by using The Essentials of Baccalaureate Nursing Education for Professional Nursing Practice (AACN,1998), Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice (ANA, 1998), and Nursing's Social Policy Statement (ANA, 1995). All six are inherently interrelated but have been separated in the courses for clarity. In the first nursing course, Nursing 3209 (Theoretical Basis for Holisitic Nursing and Health), the student explores the processes and the historical and current perspectives of the nursing profession. Within each subsequent nursing course, the processes are used to operationalize the roles of nursing and habituate the student to a caring ethic.
