The professional role of nursing is in a state of constant flux, and the contributions of students and faculty to its evolution are acknowledged. Students and faculty collaborate on projects and actively seek ways in which to advocate for clients, foster critical analysis of nursing and societal issues, and function as change agents. The fundamentals of professional ethics, standards of practice, and behavioral expectations are role modeled and shared by faculty. Leadership principles that focus on empowerment are employed and include positive self concept, creativity, resource support and information support. Students are socialized into the profession through their interaction with faculty, expert clinicians, and each other. Nursing Perspectives (Nursing 4401) culminates the coursework as students examine and discuss historical, current, and future issues in nursing and healthcare.
