Inherent in the research process is an attitude of critical inquiry and a knowledge of the components of research. Nursing practice is the primary source for investigating nursing concerns and the development of hypotheses and the gathering of data. An understanding of the legal and ethical issues involved in research is essential. In Nursing 3209, Theoretical Basis for Nursing and Holistic Health, the student is introduced to the contributions of nursing research. Research in Nursing (Nursing 4402) equips the student with knowledge in research language and concepts. This knowledge is enhanced throughout the remainder of nursing courses, enabling the student to develop the ability to function as an informed consumer and participant in research.
