History of the Mu Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau

small logo

Mu Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International was chartered in April 1992, however, there was much preparatory work that preceded the charter. In June 1987, Kennesaw State College graduated its first baccalaureate class, bringing forth the need to develop a nursing honor society with the intent of becoming a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Under the direction and leadership of faculty, alumni and students, the Kennesaw State College Nursing Honor Society adopted bylaws on April 11, 1988. Kennesaw State College Nursing Honor Society was chosen as the official name to signify the relationship between the Department of Nursing, Kennesaw State College and the Honor Society. The nursing faculty knew that an honor society would help foster high professional standards, recognize superior achievement and leadership qualities, encourage creative work and strengthen commitment to the ideals and purpose of the nursing profession.
