International Professional Development. Provided professional development in English as a Foreign Language to Colegio Morelos, private preK-12 school, in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico in areas of curriculum development, textbook selection, EFL proficiency standards, team building, articulation across grades, effective teaching and assessment strategies, first and second language acquisition theory and research, and TOEFL examination preparation; also, designed proficiency tests in English for grades 1 through 12 and administered to over a thousand students; results were analyzed reported. Recruitment program within UTEP’s Department of Teacher Education, particularly aimed at providing studies leading to Texas teacher certification of Mexican/Latin American residents in El Paso region, who have completed teacher certification requirements in their respective countries. Funded by Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA), San Antonio, Texas. $204,000. Additional year award: $50,000.

Teachers, Students, & Technology: Collaborative Curriculum Inquiry in Math, Science, & Literacy, a University of California Educational Research Center Summer Collaborative—Extended Year Program, June 8, 1998-June 4, 1999. Developed in collaboration with Carver Academy Middle School (Fresno Unified School District). $46,000 for program of K-12 professional development of teachers in instructional technology, in interaction with K-12 students at school site. Funded by University of California Center, Fresno, California.
