Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies

Welcome to the Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies (formerly

known as Center for Hispanic Studies). The Center’ s original name has been

modified to reflect more accurately the diversity of people of Latin America,

Spain, and Portugal (the Iberian peninsula), their interconnectedness as well

as their vastly different identities and experiences. The Center was founded in

2001 as a collaborative project involving the Department of Foreign

Languages
at Kennesaw State University, the Ministry of Education of Spain,

and the support of the Office of International Education of the Georgia Board

of Regents. Under the new denomination, the Center expands its

interdisciplinary platform to promote dialogues and initiatives that increase

understanding of the diversity of Latin American and Iberian societies, and

their members who live around the world. The Center fosters global

engagement by working with international and domestic institutions and

organizations on projects that promote cooperation and the production of

knowledge on Latin Americans and Iberians, particularly those who make up

the Georgia community. The Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies

practices the principles of social inclusion, equity, and civism.
