Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the nation's oldest intercollegiate Sorority established by African American women, was founded on the campus of Howard University, January 15th, 1908. Led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, nine extrodinary young women formed a sisterhood the has endured and grown perpetually for nearly 100 years.
In the 99 years of the Sorority's existence, Alpha Kappa Alpha has worked to improve social, political, and economic conditions in every level of society. To date, over 200,000 college educated women have committed to our Mission of "Service to All Mankind" through more than 840 chapters, including entities in Africa, Germany, Korea, Europe, and the Caribbean.
