Nurse Refresher Program
This course is open to registered nurses who are presently eligible for endorsement or reinstatement of licensure in Georgia because they have been inactive in nursing practice for four or more years. The Georgia Board's rule for endorsement states out-of-state applicants must be currently licensed (active) for licensure approval by Georgia Board. Registered nurses from other states should contact their respective Boards of Nursing to determine if this course meets their requirements for an RN refresher course. An RN refresher course may not be the only requirement for relicensure. Contact your local Board of Nursing for possible additional requirements.
Participant requirements for admission into program:
- Participants must be a previously or currently U.S. Licensed registered nurse (RN). A copy of the current or expired license must be provided to the WCHHS Division of Continuing Education within 2 weeks of registration.
- RN Refresher participants must have had U.S. hospital experience within their nursing program and/or a minimum of 6 months previous practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the U.S. Participants will be asked to provide the name and contact information for their latest hospital/acute care employer.

The program is designed for Registered Nurses (RN) who have been out of nursing for more than four years and desire a successful transition back into nursing. Or, RNs who want to reinstate a permanent license. The Refresher course is offered four times during the year. The program consists of 40 hours of didactic study and 160 hours of precepted clinical hours in one clinical area. The Registered Nurse Refresher Program has been approved by the Georgia State Board of Nursing.
A current or temporary Georgia Nursing License is required prior to beginning the Refresher Program. The Georgia Board of Nursing requires an application for reinstatement if your Georgia Nursing License has expired. If you have an out-of-state nursing license that has not expired, you need to apply for endorsement and verification of licensure with the Georgia Board of Nursing. This Endorsement process should be completed prior to your registration for this course. An out-of-state nursing license that has expired must be reinstated by the issuing state before applying for endorsement. All forms and applications can be down loaded from the Georgia Board of Nursing Web Site at www.sos.state.ga.us.
The oncampus version of the program provides the same content of review of the nursing care concepts as the online program. This program consists of a 40 hour theoretical component presented in 8 days, extending over a 3-week timeframe. Each day involves six hours of class and two hours of independent self-directed learning in the computer lab at the Kennesaw State University campus.
Total Cost of the On Campus Program: $1,395.00

The online program consists of 8 modules. Each module contains participant objective, reading assignments, web sites, quizzes, lecture, case studies, and discussion questions that serve as guides to facilitate critical thinking and learning. The learners complete one module (equal to one day in the campus based course per week).
The virtual classroom is a place to review assigned material and discuss related information and thoughts. Multiple methods of teaching and learning will be used, lecture, case studies, internet assignments, and individual conferences. The course is designed to enhance student learning, but the student is ultimately responsible to ensure that the learning takes place. Discussion questions and weekly quizzes will be based on textbook reading assignments, lecture notes that are posted, case studies, web research, and journal article readings. The quizzes are open book. The discussion questions that you post will provide a springboard for others comments. You are expected to log on to the virtual classroom at least 4 of 7 days each week. Students are expected to be available for required quizzes at the end of each week and final exam at end of course.
