Departmental News & Events

  • Approval of new minor in Health Promotion! Starting in Spring 2013, students can complete 18 credit hours toward a minor in Health Promotion. Six credit hours can overlap with existing major requirements. Students who complete the health promotion minor program will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for them to work in a variety of health related settings.

Students completing the program will need only seven additional credit hours of health promotion courses to be eligible to take the entry level Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam. The CHES designation is one indication of professional competency in health promotion and demonstrates a high level of commitment to continued professional development. Extensive employment research has revealed that CHES is an often required and highly distinct and recognized certification in the field of health promotion.

Students with questions about the minor should contact Dr. Kandice Porter, Department Chair, at 770-423-6216 or kporte21@kennesaw.edu. To declare the minor, student must fill out a form in the HPE Departmental Office, Convocation Center 3003. All minors will be assigned a Health Promotion Advisor to assist them in successful completion of the program.
