Physical and Leisure Activities for Youth (PLAY)
The PLAY program at KSU is a volunteer program that supplements school based physical education as well as other recreation programs for children and youth who can benefit from specially designed instruction. Preference is given to elementary school children, and includes those with developmental, sensory, neurologic, mental, and orthopedic disabilities.
There are two PLAY program terms each year - one in the Spring, and another in the Fall. Each term consists of six consecutive Saturday sessions that run from 10am-Noon. All PLAY program activities are located in the Convocation Center on the KSU campus.
If you have a child that you believe might benefit from the PLAY program, please visit the Participant Registration Form.
Upon admittance into the program, each participant is informally assessed by a volunteer in the areas of gross motor development, health related physical fitness, and sport and leisure skills. An individualized activity program is developed after this initial meeting. Parents and others who are involved with the education and training of the participants are encouraged to assist by providing ideas and suggestions for the development of the program. This activity program is then implemented by volunteers under the supervision of the PLAY directors.
Parents are responsible for transportation and consistency of attendance.
Because the PLAY program is run primarily by volunteers, the number of participants accepted each term is directly related to the number of volunteers available. As such, there is always a need for more volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the Volunteer Registration Form.
