Grady Palmer Distinguished Speaker Series

Photo of Dr. Grady PalmerDr. Grady Palmer was one of the charter faculty members of the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Science with the opening of KSU in 1966. He was a valued faculty member for 30 years and retired in 1996. Dr. Palmer received his bachelor's and Master´s degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and his doctorate from the University of Georgia in Health Education. He served as Chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from 1980-1984. During his tenure at KSU, he was involved with the Georgia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The Dept. of HPS is pleased to recognize Dr. Palmer for all of his professional accomplishments by naming this Distinguished Speaker Series in his honor.

Dr. Bernard Mullin, 2005-2006 Distinguished Speaker - President and CEO - Atlanta Spirit LLC. Dr. Mullin is in charge of guiding all facets of the Spirit's operations, including overseeing all team and business operations for the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Atlanta Hawks and National Hockey League’s (NHL) Atlanta Thrashers and management of the world-class Philips Arena.

Dr. Paul M. Ribisl, 2006-2007 Distinguished Speaker - Professor and Chair, Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University, is an exercise physiologist who was a co-founder of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Wake Forest University, which he directed from 1975-1991. Dr. Ribisl is on the editorial board of health, exercise physiology, and cardiac rehabilitation journals and numerous professional organizations. He is currently co-investigator on a Department of Defense grant and three NIH research trials in the areas of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular health.

Dr. Lawrence F. Locke, 2007-2008 Distinguished Speaker - Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where from 1970-1995 he held a joint appointment in the Schools of Education and Physical Education. His honors include the Clark W. Hetherington Award from the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education, the Dudley Allen Sargent Distinguished Scholar Award from NAPEHE, the Curriculum and Instruction Academy Honor Award from NASPE, the AERA Distinguished Scholar Award from the Physical Education SIG, a Presidential Citation from AAHPERD, Presidential Awards from NASPE, and the COPETE Teacher Education Honor Award. He also is a member of the Mitchell College Athletic Hall of Fame.
