The faculty of Kennesaw State University Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program has developed a conceptual framework organized around the concepts of caring, developmental levels, holistic health, and functional health patterns. The curriculum of the Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program operationalizes the concepts through the six processes of nursing, all of which are designed to create healing of persons, families, groups, and communities. Healing, described as promoting holistic health, involves nursing actions centered around disease or injury prevention, health promotion, health restoration, and health maintenance, in order that optimal function of the client is achieved throughout the lifespan.
A variety of nursing conceptual models are used to assist students to organize their beginning practice. Nursing conceptual models offer a way to view the world and human beings, and each model provides a unique frame of reference for nursing practice. While a number of models are available to guide practice, one particular model might be more applicable to some nurse-client interactions than others. Therefore, the faculty assist baccalaureate students to select the most suitable nursing conceptual model based on each individual client situation to guide the successful implementation of the nursing process.
