Kennesaw State University Scholarships

The Office of Student Financial Aid  www.kennesaw.edu/financial_aid/ would like to announce the opening of the Scholarship Web Page.  This is a place where all students can go on the internet and apply for scholarships provided by Kennesaw State University for the academic year.  Scholarship web applications will be available from October through February.  Although some scholarships have only one recipient, many scholarships have multiple recipients.  Students may receive more than one scholarship.  Scholarships are based on Merit or Need, or both Merit and Need.  Need based scholarships will require an additional application, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  FAFSA applications are available in January.  Scholarships are available for Graduate and Undergraduate students and for Full Time or Part Time enrollment.

More information and applications may be found on the scholarship web page at www.kennesaw.edu/scholarships

Georgia Service Cancelable Loans for Critical Fields of Study

Nursing application - click here to fill out the Service Cancelable Loan application for the School of Nursing.

The Georgia Student Finance Commission offers the Service Cancelable Stafford Loan for students enrolled in a "critical field of study". Many health care fields are included such as HIM, Lab Technology, MedicalTechnology, Nurse Anesthesia, RN, LPN, OT, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Radiology Technology, and Respiratory Therapy for undergraduates.

Additionally, Graduate and Masters level programs eligible include Pharmacy, Nursing, PT, Radiology Technology and Respiratory Therapy. Loans also are available for nurses specializing in Gerontology and those planning to work in DHR nursing.

Loan maximums per school year are (this information may not be current):

  • Freshman             $ 2500

  • Sophomore           $ 3500

  • Junior                  $ 4000

  • Senior              $ 4500

  • Graduate:           $ 4500

An applicant must meet certain eligibility requirements such as residency, program of study, and grade point average. Application is made through the Financial Aid office of the school the student will be attending. After graduation the loan may be repaid by working in the designated field of study. For each calendar year of full-time qualifying service cancels one academic year of assistance. One half credit is given for half-time employment. If a person is unable to repay their loan by service it must be repaid in full including all interest accrued.  For the fiscal year 2003, which began in July, $3.1 million has been budgeted for this program, an increase from past years. $1.6 million has been allocated thus far to students for the coming school year. In the past monies were left unused; however, with the recent publicity given the health care worker shortage and increased knowledge of this program, participation has increased and the funds are expected to be used.

Further information is available at the Georgia Student Finance Commission web site at www.gsfc.org . The information can be found under Student Loans. Information is also available about the HOPE scholarship program and links to federal loan programs are provided. In addition, students should contact the Financial Aid office at the school where they are planning to attend.
