Getting Into Diabetes Education: An Interdisciplinary Approach

Description of Course:

This course is designed to provide comprehensive education to healthcare providers interested in diabetes education, supporting populations with diabetes and those at-risk for diabetes.

Course content:

  • Core curriculum for educational components
  • AADE Position statement on education and educational outcomes
  • ADA standards of care and standards for diabetes education (self management model)
  • Transtheoretical model with Stages of Change
  • Cultural and ethnic considerations of care
  • Diabetes education and care in the community
  • Data management and interpretation

Objectives:

  • Discuss the etiology and treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) and its complications.
  • Recognize the classifications of DM and other categories of glucose regulation.
