Description of Course:
An introduction to Faith Community Nursing designed to sensitize nurses to the array of issues related to Faith Community Nursing or Health Ministry and the role and responsibilities of the Faith Community Nurse. Emphasis is placed on models of faith community nursing, diverse faith traditions, persons with special health care needs, legal and ethical issues, health promotion, and disease prevention.
Course Overview:
This 45-hour course is designed to provide nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a basic understanding of nursing in faith communities and its roles and responsibilities. Emphasis is placed on learning strategies and techniques to meet the health and spiritual needs of diverse populations across the lifespan and developing inter-collegial peer support systems. In addition, students will learn to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate interventions based on assessment findings, and presentation of health data to groups. Successful completion of this course will qualify an individual to assume the role of a Faith Community Nurse.

Course Objectives:
