Recipe of the Month - June 2010

Very Berry Smoothie

A typical 16 oz. store-bought smoothie contains 450 calories and 80 grams of sugar! Skip the smoothie stand and save money and calories by mixing your own nutrient-packed treat. Homemade smoothies make refreshing breakfasts and snacks, particularly in the summer when berries are inexpensive and at their peak flavor. Whether frozen or fresh, colorful berries are an excellent source of fiber and antioxidants.

1 cup frozen or fresh mixed berries
½ cup low fat strawberry yogurt
½ banana, sliced
½ cup skim milk
½ cup ice (if using fresh berries)



  1. In a blender, combine berries, yogurt, banana, milk, and ice (optional). Cover and blend until smooth.

Makes 2 servings
