Recipe of the Month - November 2010

Savory Sweet Turkey Sandwich

Mix up your lunch routine with this Thanksgiving-inspired sandwich! Turkey is an excellent source of lean protein, providing 30 g of protein in a 3 ½ oz. serving (about the size and thickness of a deck of cards). It also contains iron, zinc, phosphorous, and B vitamins. Try this savory-sweet combination with Thanksgiving leftovers.

½ Tbsp. honey
½ Tbsp. mustard
2 slices whole wheat bread
3 ounces thinly sliced smoked turkey breast
1 wedge Laughing Cow light cheese
¼ cup toasted walnuts
3 thin slices apple
1/8  tsp. freshly ground black pepper



1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. Combine honey and mustard in a small bowl. Place bread on a baking sheet. Spread mustard mixture on one slice and top with cheese, turkey, and walnuts. Bake for 5 minutes or until cheese begins to melt.

3. Arrange apple slices on bread; sprinkle with pepper. Cover with other half of bread and cut in half.
