Teaching across the department's curriculum, Dr. Allison's instructional foci are organizational communication, public relations, integrated marketing communication and theory. She believes teaching is a noble commitment to intellectually empower others through shared inquiry, discovery, analysis and self-reflection. Key components of her teaching practices emphasize critical thinking, creativity, collaborative learning, mentoring and ethical decision making. Dr. Allison currently serves as the department's faculty advisor for Lambda Pi Eta, a national communication honor society.

After completion of a master's thesis in retail development marketing, she was recruited by Simon Properties, to work as a shopping center marketing director. Her professional achievements include an international merit award for a community relations campaign.

Dr. Allison's current research interests include the institutional images of colleges/universities, organizational diversity, teacher immediacy and pedagogy and service learning. During her doctoral studies, she worked as a PR consultant for the National Black MBA Association and later served as an ethics advisor with Ruder Finn, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois.

In terms of off-campus activities, she admits to being an “enthusiastic, not necessarily great, bowler and skater.” She also participates in Toastmasters International. Dr. Allison's personal philosophy is to “live life more richly through treasured experiences,” many of which are linked to her family and faith.
