Barbara S. Gainey, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication's public relations concentration at Kennesaw State University. Dr. Gainey has more than 20 years of professional communication experience, starting in newspaper work. Most of her experience has been in public relations in public and corporate sectors, including substantial administrative experience. At KSU, Dr. Gainey is the faculty advisor for the university's PRSSA chapter. She also is a member of the KSU Honors Program faculty. She holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communications (public relations emphasis) from the University of South Carolina. Research interests are in the areas of public relations, crisis management/crisis communication (particularly in educational settings), public engagement and leadership.
